I'm 20 and am told I look about my age. When I was younger, though... I still was told I looked around 20-21. A waitress at a restaurant took my order for a cocktail when I was 14 without even asking for my ID. Unfortunately, I was out to lunch with my mom at the time and she stopped the waitress from bringing it back to the table...

I personally think its all about how you hold yourself. I get ID'd when purchasing games or cigarettes(I don't smoke, its for my buddies at work when I run out for coffee) sometimes, but most of the time, they don't say a word to me. Mostly because of how since I am of legal age to purchase this stuff, I don't have some worried face on me.

I am 18 and look 16 at best. I do not mind though, because while I do get the benefits of legal drinking (id or not, sometimes they don't ask) I can also buy the half-priced mass transit tickets. No one ever suspects me! Nyah nyah nyah!

I'm 18 but given my looks (I'd post a picture, but, you know, internet anonymity) I never get asked for ID... Having a beard and cynical look on my face might be helping, I guess.

I'm 31 and get carded for smokes pretty regularly. I don't see it, especially since I started developing my wicked widow's peak. It only bugged me before I started expecting it and would leave my license in the car.

Guesses on my age will vary depending on how long it's been since I shaved, ranging from 19 to 29... which is kind of funny, since I'm 34. Of course, it doesn't help things when my eczema flares up and I start getting pimple breakouts on my face.

[small]34 years old and I still get zits... yeah, lovely, I know.[/small]

I got mistaken for a teacher at college.

Maybe it's cause I'm not a complete douchebag though...

I come off a bit young. People I am about 15 or 16 both in appearance and sound of voice, so people online also think I am a bit younger.
I don't mind though. Unlike you, Id rather stay looking young for as long as possible.

That was very rude of her- she should just ask for id, not instill her own judgement on you.

A little while back, I was out at a pub with my friends to celebrate my birthday (I turned twenty one.) When the waitress asked us what we wanted to drink. I asked for a Keiths and she said that someone that is my age should not be ordering beer. I asked how old she thought I was. She responded with the straightest face ?turning sixteen". I was so pissed. I showed her my ID and said to suck on that and told her she just lost her tip for that night.

I did not let this bother me, but just today when I was walking my dog at about eleven in the morning. A woman had come up to me asking about my dog and then asked why I was not in school. I told her that I was finished school and I was in college. She had apologized and said that I looked seventeen.

I know this should not bother me but it does because I am in my early twenties and people who look at me think I am still in secondary school.
So my question is
Have you ever been mistaken for being older or younger and does it bother you?
I would be scared of her spitting in my drink... I hear very bad stories about that stuff

There have been times people thought I was 22-24, when I'm actually 19 going on 20. Generally people either think I'm older than what I am, or my exact age, give or take a year. But no one has thought I looked younger than my actual age..

I'm 22, but because I very rarely travel far from my immediate surroundings, much less go out to buy beer or stuff like that (I don't drink), this subject does not really come up for me. The only point of reference that I have regarding people judging my age is that, in the few cases that it does come up, people tend to think that I am older than I actually am. This is especially true online, where people who lack that age information often believe I am 5+ years older than I actually am. I'm not really sure why... sort of.

I'm 19, and I'm unsure if that waitress would have asked for my ID at all or just accept that someone who looks like he's 30 can't be too young to order beer. Most people see balding as a sign of age for some reason. And yes, I'd rather look my age and keep all the hair on my head ;P

Apparently, according to the strangers I run into constantly in my day to day life, I am somewhere between the ages of 16 and 30... can somebody explain how I can be mistaken for a range that is about as big as the minimum age?

I think you over-reacted. No offense, but just showing her the ID should have been enough.

I'm 6'3, maybe 6'4, and I'm not skinny or lanky, so people usually think I'm 18 or 19, instead of the 17 I actually am. It doesn't bother me much, although once I had a girl who insisted that I must be 16, as I am apparently "eternally youthful and happy". I think she was trying to call me "immature" in the nicest terms possible. I didn't much mind that, either.

Both my parents and I have always looked younger than we actually are. This is a good thing for my parents, who are both in their 50's and could easily pass for early 40's, but bad for little old 16 year old me. It doesn't help that I only really hit my growth spurt last year, but I've finally started looking pretty much my age. It was a tough time before that, though.
