AH HA !!, I KNEW it was those damn stupid ass Marilyn Manson commercials. Well, you eventually did get 'The New Shit' with DA2. LOL
Overlooking that poorly-covered insult and bad joke at the end, yes, I did cop that DA2. And while it certainly has it's problems (like the disjointed narrative, the reused dungeons, and the spastic combat with random respawns), I don't think the game is quite as bad as everyone says it is.

But yeah, I prefer my games to test my ability as a player through reflexes, not numbers.

Though I will admit, playing a dual-wielding rogue was nice. My little quartet of my character, Alistair, Wynne, and Leliana wrecked shop.

Damn you action elitists are so defensive.
I'm not getting defensive, I'm simply stating an observation.

And here's another: now you're making brash generalizations based off a single statement by a single person. Way to jump to conclusions.

All the dungeons in DA:O are waaaaaaaaaaaay too long.

Also the magic system leads to you using the same 4 or five powers on rotation which became old very quickly. Stasis, paralyse, frost, rock fist, frost, rock fist, stasis. Yawn.

D&D's spell choices may have been convoluted and insane but at least they made to make choices depending on the spell you found and which one to pick before your day started. Fighting troll? Better pack some fire/acid spells. Fighting a creature from the plane of fire? Ice spells. Mages; pierce-magic or breach. Demons: Protection from evil.

Fighting each creature had a flavour to it.

But in DA:O it's just disable spells, insta-death setup spells, finishing spells, damage spells. Rinse. Repeat.

DAO is more of a traditional CRPG unlike the modern WRPG we have today on consoles. This is a good article about CRPGs http://www.gamasutra.com/view/feature/1571/the_history_of_computer_.php

I do like that you are using more and more words to say absolutely nothing of value.

If trying to antagonize me helps you sleep better tonight, I won't stop you.

I've already stated my case, and I have no reason to sully my night by sticking around and dealing with your or anyone else's nonsense.

Good night to you all.

After playing both mass effects, and loving the first one and to a lesser extent the second one, I bought DA:O, and I got bored. It just wasn't as engaging as the mass effects were, and also because as far as I got the story was EXACTLY like oblivion, scene for scene.

Well i didn't say i hate it. From what I have seen I doubt I will hate it by the end. The game is just boring me. so if by the end I am angry or do not like what I did it will be my own damn fault. Not the game. Anyways I guess I will do some more on it.
Might I ask what you're playing as? Whatever it is (except mage, they are allowed more freedom in terms of build), don't try to be a jack-of-all trades. If you're a Warrior, you want to be just sword-and-shield or just two-handed (or archer...but rogues are much better for that). If you're a rogue, you want to be just a dual-wielding rogue or just an archer. Also, make sure you know what the attributes do.

But really, don't feel bad if you're continually underwhelmed. It happens.
I tried being a Rogue with pure Archer cause that is what i genially choose in RPG's and such. But I ended up hating it and am now a Mage.
Archer was literally the worst choice. It's pretty much the least fun to be had in a game.

While it's a riot in Bethesda RPG's it really doesn't work in DA:O.
I never understood this train of thought. Isn't this a party based game where your controlling different characters ? It's not like your 'locked' into one character only. I rolled an archery rogue as my main character, but i was using everybody else all the time also.

I had no problem with an archery/rogue build, but you can def screw up the build if you don't do it right. (put points into unnecessary attributes, take shitty talents)
I set up the tactics for the other characters and switch to them if I need them to do something something specific, but no. I'm the warden, I therefore spend most of my time playing as the warden in combat.

Not saying you're wrong, just that I disagree. I feel it's the Warden's show and the party are supporting cast. Very good supporting cast, but supporting none the less.

I liked how the game didn't judge you like "you recieve +5 evil, prick!"
instead, it were just your compagnions who called you on it, so you could choose whether you cared or not.

Ok before I start I should say I love RPGs. I have played the shit out of the Final Fantasy games, lots of hours in The Elder scroll titles, and sunk my teeth into Fallout 3 a bit.

I have been playing Dragon age Origins and I honestly cannot find the appeal to this game. I have met alot of people who have spend countless hours into this game but I just can't bring myself to get that far into it. I can only get to level 5ish before getting bored as fuck.

What is the apeal on this game that just seems to draw people into it? Cause I do not see it. Maybe if someone explained it to me I might have a better time...
it's not for everyone. though as an RPG fan i think you should give it more of a chance, it's really very good on characterization and story.

So yeah Playing DA:O some more. I am started it get into it a bit though the quest system could have been better. I am having a hard time knowing where to go. There ar no signs on the world map that show where to go for your current quest

Plus a game advertising it's DLC in game is a dick move on Biowares part.

Also...

Is Zevran gay? He kinda flirted with me XD
Reading the quest notes actually helps / tells you where to go next. There is a lot of reading required for this game. I also recommend reading all the codex entries - yes, it's a lot of walls of text to climb, but they really do give you a sense of what the game world is, who is important in it, what virtues various societies you encounter value, etc. etc.

I'm dying to know what your character set up is.

Yes, Zevran is bi-sexual (as is Leliana - they are the two party members available to either gender of main char for romance where Alistair and Morrigan are available as romances only to the opposite sex, thus ensuring that either gender of main char has 3 love options). Don't hesitate to tell Zev to cool it, he doesn't take it badly until after you seal the deal, so to speak, if you are "not of a mind."

As a generic recommendation, I would advise you not to buy any gear for your people (you'll find plenty and to spare as you move through to equip your party well as you progress) because the economy of the game (unless you game the crafting system via some online guide) is smaller than you might expect - until you find something with a massive price tag you simply can't live without and have plenty of coin later in your career.

Everyone I've spoken to who have played DA: O have all said the same thing.
"It was boring at first, but after I stopped playing for a month or so and went back to it, I enjoyed it."

I'm the same, played it for a bit, got bored, played other games, went back to it, thoroughly enjoyed it. It takes a while to get going though, it's a real slow burner I find.

But yeah, the appeal of DA:O is definitely the story and the characters you met through out the world. Seriously, on my last (Aborted) play-through, I spent more time talking to them then I actually did focusing on the story. As for the combat, it's OK. I liked it but I didn't really feel like I was doing too much so it was pretty boring after a while. I've heard it's more fun on PC though but I'm not sure about that.

So yeah, the appeal is in the story and characters, seeing as almost all of the characters are likeable and have a good chunk of back-story to them and the story is, once you get into the meat of it, pretty bloody good.
I can fully agree with this. DA:O really dissappointed me the first time I played it, however when I gave it another chance a few months later I started enjoying it. Later on it becomes one of my favorite games. DA:O needs A LOT of polish and some mistakes were made but it's still a damn good game in the end.

You had almost convinced me to buy this game, but then news of The Witcher 2 for the 360 came out. It seems like a damn good game, but I dunno... Will I have the free time to enjoy the game? And considering I will have to play it on the 360, is it even doable on its hardest difficult without being the equivalent of Dark Souls on a roid rage?

I've never seen the appeal either. The only thing I've ever gotten out of my sister (who loved the game) was "Squee! Alistair!".

I'll just play some NWN, thanks.

Exactly. That's why I prefer D&D cRPGs, say, to cRPGs with homebrew rulesets because most developers seem to have a hard time coding the game and writting/balancing a decent rule-set in the allotted time. Plus, It's never as deep and more dumbed down.

And I love the HUGE monster variety.
I also think the loot and equipment was crap.

I don't want the level up my equipment from yew to ash or iron to steel. I want common and uncommon equipment and canonically interesting equipment that is actually interesting to use: Like a sword of orc slaying to help with defeating the orc bezerker but ruduces intelligence. Or a hammer of earthquakes that can destory golems but causes earthquake damage to all in the area. Or a shield of reflection to use on the medusa.

It really didn't feel like it matter what weapon or armour I used as long as I had melee tanks to shield my disabling mage and my damage dealing archer/mage.
