Dear Escapists,
We have all been waiting too long for I'm Alive by Ubisoft to come out.
I have survived every video-game horror put to human and in(un/non)human-kind alike.

But I want to play a survival game.
Food, Shelter, Fatigue.

Be it deserted-island or inner-city. I want to play a game where I have to survive. I was to hunt for food and water. I want to build a shelter and ensure a good night sleep.
I want to do that in an extreme enviroment.

HELL!!! Why hasn't Bear Grylls come up with something!?!?!

Any hints, tips, useful directions, in playing this type of game.

Regards,
Tom B-B

There IS a Man Vs Wild game already.

Probably bad, though.

Lost in Blue 1-3 on DS might be what you are looking for.

Play "Lost in Blue" for the DS. They are survival games on tropical islands.

Survival Kids on the GBC. Fairly lax though.

Stranded also comes to mind. You'll spend most of your time collecting resources and avoiding lions.

There's the obligatory Minecraft. It's survival, of sorts. You have to hunt for food for health in order to fight monsters, and you can make weapons and armor.

Also, I'm sure that "I am Alive" was canceled.

The closest I know of are Minecraft and maybe GTA San Andres where you have to eat food and stuff.

Minecraft is about as focused on survival as the Resident Evil series is on logic.

Actually "I Am Alive" was not cancelled, and is due out this year. Though, Ubisoft doesn't consider it a big seller so it will only be released via digital distribution.

If you can't find what you're looking for, you could always jump on a plane to Ethiopia (or some country like that) and try actual survival for a while.

Honestly, there are some ideas that just shouldn't be made into games. Not only does it belittle those that actually have to live in that situation, but it doesn't really sound like it would be much fun.

The one possible exception might be a survival game on an alien world. If done right, that could be compelling.
