I don't have a problem with the various themes of threads. If I don't like the topic at hand then nobody is twisting my arm and forcing me to post in it, although now that I think about it that would be a good way of dredging up more comments for my blo... web journal (just caught myself there).

One thing that annoys me though - when people remind the original poster of a thread that their thread idea has been done before. To me it seems patronising and elitist. Especially if the thread is only a repeat of one that someone posted a year ago or something. I get that nobody wants to see a page stuffed up with 'What's the deal with Game X?' threads, but sometimes people can be a little too overzealous in declaring things as a repeat.

I don't even mind relationship threads, they're invariably going to be depressing - but they can be entertaining. Schedenfraude is fun, after all.

I wouldn't mind seeing more people posting their good news on this site, rather than the bad. We all know we have good days from time to time - but all we ever hear about is the bad, depressing stuff.

As I'm sure Hubilub agrees, any thread based on the "Ask a..." concept.
Well, actually, there was a really good one where a soldier from the United States Army answered all the questions he was asked. It was a really good thread.

The "I don't get why everyone likes XXXXXX" threads are starting to annoy me now.

On a side note, how long do we think it'll be before someone decides that they're going to be so unique and make a "What's the big deal with MineCraft?" thread?
That person will receive my wrath. Minecraft is AWESOME.
I'll only get angry if they complain about the graphics. Otherwise, it'll probably be justified enough.

Any political tread where I see stupid generalizations about Conservatives. Especially ones that where people try to put a square peg into a round hole and say that all Conservatives are Republicans.

I'm man enough to admit that not all Democrats and Liberals are Socialist and Communist nutjobs, because not all Republicans are actual Conservatives.

There are Socialist and Communist crazies that hide under the banner of being Democrats/Liberals and Republicans/Conservatives.

Personally, I feel asking for suggestions/advice is ok on a forum, as long as it's not trolling

OT: The things I hate are the "Am I the only one/VS threads"

As I have posted above, a few threads [footnote]Mostly from before the thing became a trend[/footnote] have been worth the read. Others however have a very mundane or common subject and the OP comes across as having a inflated sense of self worth.
True.

I, personally, feel that if the OP's post will not result in some new perspective or thought, then they really shouldn't post.

Faith in humanity takes the cake. At least the others mentioned are amusing occasionally.... those are just lists from failblog or made up BS.

"Why all the hate/My Problems with..." threads always seem so whiny. And "Am i the only one" should just stop, and post it on facebook instead.

So you start a thread with a question relating to a topical subject. Through asking the question you show that you are in favour of/against the subject but you are directing your question towards those with the opposite viewpoint.

You then proceed to ignore reasoned debate, abandon thought and just continually restate your argument which proves you are so very very right. If you want to have a discussion, discuss. If you are certain of your opinion of something, leave it alone and stop baiting people with the notion you may be convinced otherwise.

You will not change minds unless you present a reasoned argument, taking into account flaws on both sides (and know your subject matter in thorough detail)

I like the Ask a . . . . I always learn something new and random from them. They are pretty self-indulgent though. Damn you and your differing opinion. haha.
I've seen the worst of them though. I recall one that was literally "Ask someone from America a question". Because you don't get a lot of answers from America, that secluded country with such a limited population...

They are only there to boost the ego of the OP, the questions you can ask are limited and more often than not, especially in recent days, the defining characteristic that supposedly warrants the thread is not exactly defining.

I will admit a few have been interesting, for example, the undercover policeman one.
I see now. That Ask an America idea is terrible. I think I just remember the more interesting ones like the police man, and the borderline personality one.

And you're right too about many of the questions asked being ridiculous and are there just to make the asker sound edgy and sarcastic.

That woman who uses the site for the sole purpose of blogging about her own life. I won't name names though, Jane_Eyre22 [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/profiles/view/jane_eyre22].

I hate those really smarmy, "you're a really great and special person" threads too. It's just embarrassing.
