Well, I feel that nerdness is something to take pride in, especially on a site like this. So if you can out-nerd someone on a site with lots of nerds, you are an awesome nerd.

That still won't get you laid though..
love your quote. best i've ever seen. cookie for you sir

I want to play D&D, so yeah I'm also a nerd :D

[sub]Seriously, no one in my city plays it... I have no one to teach me D:[/sub]
There a lot of forums and such out there where you can find a gaming group, you can play over IRC or something like that.

It's never ideal but if you're interested in trying that sorta stuff out it's worth a free afternoon. All it takes is signing up and a bit of planing.

Yeah I guess, but I'd like to play with people I know first, so when I don't understand something I can ask about it, instead of being too shy to interrupt D:

I know what you mean.

The best way around that is to try and get to know the people you're playing with- you all just there to have fun after all. If you managed to make get one of your friends to join you that could be cool as well. Hay, you might even be able to start your own group if you got enough people interested?

I have NEVER demeaned anyone as a nerd, and I especially won't do it here, because we are al just avid gamers with intellectual minds.

If someone wants to give an extremely detailed response or point of view they are more than welcome, I won't call them out as being too nerdy.

I definitely feel like I am a nerd and I don't want to do deny it, after all it's just what I like to do.

Not to be a nerd but videogames are quite an accepted social meidum, being on a site about them doesent qualify you as a nerd.
This, walk down a hall way when MewTwo came out, see how many people are still on about it.

I'm definitely a nerd. I'm proud to say that i have a drow in D&D, level 9 sorcerer, 7 Initiate of the Sevenfold Veil. I'm damn proud of that!

I'm a nerd and proud.

'Not to be a nerd' is a lame self excusing phrase, similar to: 'I'm just saying'.

Nerd trapped in a jock's body. Lets call me a closet-nerd. Oh, and a forum website about games? Definitely nerdy

I've been seeing this phrase and variations of it all over the Escapist lately. Whether commenting on an article or just discussing what books we're reading, there are always a few of us that want to preface our (usually not very nerdy at all, actually) opinions with an acknowledgment that we just might come off as nerds.

Frankly, I don't get it. This is The Escapist, people. By virtue of being here, we're pretty much assumed to be nerds.

So my question to all users is this: Do you, in fact, feel that you are not a nerd? If so, what about yourself leads you to this conclusion?
People who are hardcore nerds tend to either shun me a little or treat me as an oddity because I only have a semi-superficial understanding of computers and do a lot of stuff that nerds find a bit too "cool" for their taste such as play in bands, go on tour occasionally, run a record label, socialise with a lot of women etc.

On the other hand, people who are in the music scene or the social scenes where I hang out definitely feel like I'm nerdy, because I openly admit to liking computer games, wasting time on internet forums and have a fairly full understanding of nerd culture and memes. So I get shunned a bit there too. I guess I don't fit in anywhere but then that's fine, I'm quite comfortable with that.
You sound like a very fun person. I didn't know you go on tour and run a record label. Sounds like you live quite the life. :)
Actually I'm a bit of an asshole. But that's okay, I'm at peace with it.
Like, to everyone?... I'm actually okay with that.
That's lovely. Thanks for your vote of confidence. All I need now is for you to be female and live closer to me.

I'm a nerd, but if you think about it, nerds rule the world. The word "nerd" has a negative connotation when it should almost be a positive one is certain aspects.
