Not too sure this was the right move, Hasbro.

Transformers Prime has recently introduced a new character into the show who I'm guessing will soon be released as a toy. It's a toy-selling program so that's to be expected.

Except Smokescreen, the new character, is impossible to like. He beat an invincible opponent in the first episode he appeared in, his backstory is already more fleshed out than the established characters (the likeable ones), including a connection to the higher-ups, and he constantly tries to win the day single-handedly and has to be rescued. He's done this three times now, no character development at all.

He's a racecar so they'll make some sales but I can't even see kids liking this guy, he's a dick. A hugely annoying dick. So much so that I've been hoping he pulls a Cliffjumper and gets snuffed 5 minutes after he shows up. Hasn't happened yet but a guy can dream.

He fails a lot so he's not a Gary-Stu but he has no likeable qualities at all.

Hasbro isn't shortchanging the show just to sell toys but I think they've shot themselves in the foot here.

I know there has to be discussion value here so I'd like to ask exactly how you would market this guy?

Well as long as he's fun to play with for the kids... I see no problem with his character being a douche.

Well, crap.

Transformers has officially been ruined forever.
Agreed. This is worse than the munkys, Transformers that don't Transform, and the Pokémon.

*shrugs* At least he's not Drift, right?

I wasn't aware there was a running transformers series. But, if we are on the topic, did you guys see the advertisements for the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series? From what I've seen the characters have- er... transformed personality wise. I'm just hoping that they aren't "aliens".

I haven't seen Transformers in years. I don't think this will make a diference maybe the character will have an arch where it realises that Friendship is magic?

But the question is, which character would it be?

My bet's on Shockwave, he needs a friend. He seems lonely.

Sounds like a giant fucking Cheetor ripoff.

....

I now feel bad, because Cheetor was my favorite transformer growing up... and looking back, he was such a giant douche.
