Anyways, FUCK YOU NOTCH.
First you spit into my face by refusing to give a small ammount of that cash that your house is made of for Pscyconauts2, and now you say - meh, not interested anymore, to somehting that has tons of potential!
You make me sick.
I assume this ia a joke. Making fun of the very real psychos that think this way.
I hope so, that is a very convincing impression. Even down to the spelling mistakes.

Fair play to the new devs. I hope it works out, it sounded like a great idea and it would be a shame to let it die. I don't think Notch would mind much. He is pretty used to getting his minecraft idea ripped off for cheap clones.
This was more of a Bro-Team impression - exaggerated first thoughts.
But I still will never forgive him the Pscyconauts 2 ditch...
That is not his fault. If you read between the lines you'll see that the first amount put out there ended up not really being the true amount needed to make a sequel, and then there are all the issues of who owns IP, what return do you get on your investment, etc.

Double Fine is doing pretty well now and if they want to make that sequel they will start a Kickstarter and get it done.

Well... they shouldn't monitize it if it was all a concept that was nearly realized by another person, even if they build from scratch.
The fact someone else came up with the origional idea doesn't stop them from making money on their own one. If we went by your logic only Westwood could make an RTS game and sell it, only id software could make and sell a FPS and only Rockstar could make a sandbox game (or whoever started that genre, often it's vague where a genre technically starts).
Uhhhh.... There's a difference between a detailed game concept that was partially completed and a whole damn genre like RTS.

I'm really curious what the hell Notch is doing now with his life. Is he just pocketing majority cash from minecraft while everyone else does the work? Good on him for starting off Minecraft, but it seems after like beta 1.8 Jeb took over the programming while Notch went off to wank for months afterwards.
I'm still waiting for proper mod support.

... his code is absolutely terrible anyway. It's impossible to maintain. Just look at Minecraft, they're still cleaning up his mess.
And this too. He isn't the best programmer out there. A lot of his stuff is SUPER unoptomized as hell, and a lot of the modders are actually better at coding than him.

The RTS genre started as a detailed game concept, it became a genre over time as more games were made that followed the concept. Which would never have happened if copying concepts/ideas wasn't allowed. Copyright covers what you make, not the idea you have/had. In the film courses I did that drilled that part into us alot to warn us not to share ideas with others since they can literally run off with them and do it themselves and you've got no legal protection.

You know what would be an awesome gesture? Notch releasing the current code under GPL or something similar.
How about "following through with an idea"?

Notch is becoming infamously unreliable when it comes to finishing any of his projects outside of minecraft and his frequent vacationing has now become a punchline to the testament of his laziness on the internet

Yeah, what you originaly wrote was basically a perfect example of Poe's Law [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poe's_law].

OT: Yeah, I agree with RicoADF that there is no legal basis for Mojang to do anything about the fan game. Notch has been pretty vocal about game ideas not being something that you can own. He's fine with Minecraft clones that don't infringe on the images and sound. I'm sure he'll support the project.

I have tremendous respect for the man because of his contributions to charity.

At the same time, he is also an indie dev personality/celebrity (as opposed to an Indie Dev, without the celebrity aspect attached) which makes me loathe him in a very certain way reserved for Phil Fish and his ilk. Unfortunately, this plays much more to me dislike for him, but only because I loved the project in the first place.

Yeah, it's complicated.

I've no idea why he's considered some righteous indie messiah by a large segment of the PC gaming community.
Because he made a massively successful game from scratch. That's the indie dream right there.

Damn. I was looking forward to 0x10^c. If nothing else, it would give me a chance to learn how to program a 16-bit CPU. That could have been fun.
Why not download an emulator? You have the world of CPUs to choose from... you could even begin where my game development career did decades ago - an 8-bit Z80 CPU with a whopping 1Kbyte of RAM. :)

Starting with an 8-bit CPU is a great way to learn assembly language and how CPUs actually work (C/C++ etc. hide so much from today's programmers that most don't really know what is actually going on under the hood).

Well there's a fair bit attention to this so they can probably throw a kickstarter if it becomes necessary. Hopefully they can make a nice fan game.
