I guess it's a teacher's way of proving to her that you listened. Your assignment SAYS take notes for yourself, but in reality, you're taking them for her. If you write down your notes from the viewpoint of, say, somebody missed the class and you had to show them what the class was about and you could hand those notes to that person, you'll do fine with that. It doesn't make the assignment suck any less, but that's how to get an A on it.
