I decided to make my list of games that I made time for. That I kept coming back to regularly until they were completed. I don't finish games very often, so I think it must mean I really enjoyed the following:

-The Walking Dead - Every time a new episode received a release date = I know I what I'm doing ______ night! Clementine is character of the year.
-Sleeping Dogs - I loved the setting, the voice acting and the action. The fight system was enjoyable and the driving was fun. I was really in the mood for a GTA-like and SG delivered.
-The Adventures of Shuggy - It has that Bubble Bobble charm to me. Like revisiting an old friend. Played through all 8 hours in two back-to-back nights. Got a few #1 times, cause I'm 1337.
-Dishonored - I really savored this one; taking my time, feeling my way through the world. Then, of course, I did a blood-thirsty manic run through. Very fun stealth-action.
-Rayman Origins (PC) - Beautiful and fun. That's all it takes, Ray, you beautiful Man, you.
-Legend of Grimrock - Such palpable atmosphere. And the puzzles were great.

Honorable Mention:
-Mark, Of the Ninja - Refreshingly good. This just turned out to be one of those times where: "Hey, this game is great." *Drops it for months for no reason*

Not a great year to be honest, but there were some good titles at the end of the year. Been playing older games mostly this year.

3. Journey
2. XCOM: Enemy Unknown
1. Far Cry 3

Honorable mentions to Hitman: Absolution and Dragon's Dogma.

Not really in any order:

- The Walking Dead

- Borderlands 2

- Far Cry 3

I would put Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance in there because I love the series, but I haven't actually played it.

1. Hotline miami.

Still need to play/ possible other candidates (ones with an asterisk are ones which look promising):

Far cry 3
Scribblenauts unlimited* (technically a 2013 release since it's not released in europe until then)
Botanicula
Little inferno*
Fallen enchantress
Thomas was alone*
Giana sisters
Xcom enemy unknown (tried demo, wasn't too impressed, but still kind of interested)
Guild wars 2

If i didn't mention it then i've probably seen a lot of gameplay footage of it and wasn't interested enough to buy it, or have already tried it and wasn't impressed. I've tried walking dead, skyrim, diablo 3, CS:GO and possibly a few others.

2 - Halo 4
3- Mass Effect 3 (Even with its flaws, I had a good time playing it).

Well apparently I've only bought three 2012 games this year. So...

1. Skullgirls
2. Spec Ops: The Line
3. Max Payne 3.

Skullgirls was definitely my favorite, loved the animations, art style and the small but balanced cast. Spec Ops: The Line was mediocre but not the absolute worst. Max Payne 3 was pretty bad. The action is slave to the slow animations, and the cutscenes tend to interrupt the gameplay way too often. It also forces you into cover way too heavily to be a run and gun type of game. While Max's poetic waxings are well written, the plot just meanders with little motivation.

I did play a few 2011 games this year that I enjoyed.

Mass Effect 3 - The story was good enough for me and the multiplayer has kept me coming back since its release.

Borderlands 2 - It has everything I enjoyed about the first game, but moreso.

XCOM: Enemy Unknown - I have no history with the series, but really enjoyed this game.

Honorable Mention:
FTL - I lost so many times, but I kept going back.

Mine isn't the most original list in the world, but these games were popular for a reason:

1. The Walking Dead - This one really surprised me, especially after some adaptations of the source material failed so miserably at creating an emotional experience.

2. Spec Ops: The Line - It almost goes without saying. This game isn't for everybody, but I believe it's several steps ahead of where most games are these days when it comes to story and characters.

3. Mass Effect 3 - Say what you like about this one, but I still consider it a great game overall. Sure it had some flaws, but what game doesn't?

3. Hell Yeah! Wrath of the Death Rabbit
2. Warriors Orochi 3
and the victor...
1. Playstation Allstars: Battle Royale

Other games I played:

Way of the Samurai 4
Tokyo Jungle
Quantum Conundrum

Nothing new (I just discovered how awesome God Hand is) really interested me this year. This year was mostly the "Year of PS2 Collections I Already Own". Next year looks exciting, with DmC and MGR: Revengence. And that's just the first two months.

I only bought 3 games that came out this year. Soul Calibur 5 was far too awful a game to make it onto any top 3 list, so I will go with

1. Mass Effect 3

2. Borderlands 2

Aaaaaaand, #3 will have to be either Dishonored, since I am certain I will love it when I do get the funds to purchase it, ooooooor InFamous 2. I didn't play it until June this year, so it counts for me.

No SC5. No.
