Yes, Skyrim is a better game than Oblivion. It takes a few of Oblivion's gameplay conveniences, marries them with the best of Morrowind's design and taste for slightly darker narratives, and packages that with shiny graphics and good sound.

However, Oblivion has the Nehrim total conversion from SureAI, which is also pretty awesome.

I like rpgs but i hated Oblivion(raises flame shield). Is this any better?

Edit: My problems with the game were that combat did not flow very well and the interface was terrible.
It's much, much better than Oblivion.

However, the combat is definitely smoother, but far from perfect. So you might not like melee combat in Skyrim.

It might be, but it's still rather shit on them as well. The favorites system is clunky if you have more than three things, and it's still slow and awkward. It's better on consoles than PC, but getting shot in the foot is better than getting shot in the face.

I haven't played a ton yet, but so far yes. The quests don't seem as interesting (so far I haven't gone into anyone's subconscious mind to rescue them from their dreams) but I've only done a few so far.

If thats the kind of thing you like, then you (probably) won't be disappointed

The people who follow you could use a little more personality. A light touch of the Bioware magic could really make some adventures in Skyrim better.

For example, there's no real sense that Lydia likes or dislikes her job serving her Thane. She just does it.
Well yes and no.

She never outright says it, but try trading items with her.
She says "I am sworn to carry your burdens" in a distant depressed tone, as if she's trying to hide the fact that all she wants to do is bang that strong werewolf guy from the companions while I have her sneaking around a Dwenmer ruin carrying all the junk and taking all the aggro.

Of course, this is made even worse when you realise that I'm married to that strong werewolf guy from the companions.

Then again, maybe she wouldn't be so depressed if she didn't keep walking right into those spinning-blade traps.

Keep playing, particularly in Solitude.

I have to say...Yes.

The only flaw I can really find is that it's so overwhelming with the sheer number of quests to do, that I actually stop playing it to go shoot people in Saint's Row 3.

Miscellaneous objectives (Radiant Quests, mostly), can go fuck off unless they lead into a real sidequest. Which they do on occasion. So I have to do them...

I personally like it a lot more. The dragons are way more fun to slay compared to closing Oblivion gates.

I'll have to head there next, thanks.

This one is definitely more unforgiving. Being mauled/bashed/disemboweled, and finishing moved on by Sabre Cats, Cave Bears and bumping into a freaking dragon while trying to collect herbs for Alchemy is certainly not for the feint of heart.

As far as I've played it: yes. It seems a lot more fun, hopefully there'll be even more awesome mods for it.
Tho maybe I'm enjoying TES V more cause I have a better PC then i used to. When playing Oblivion, i had to set the graphics on minimum.
