Among the legendarily awesome goodies that you could receive if you have money, you could become an NPC, Location, or Weapon in Wasteland 2 if you pledge $1,000 to their Kickstarter.

*NOTE* - I'd rather the thread not transform into a debate between the people who think pre-ordering is stupid, (let alone paying money for a game in the pre-planning stages) and the people who think Kickstarter is some revolutionary force and indie games will come back with a vengeance.

So if you had the choice, what would you chose? Elaborate. I'd go with weapon. A customized Colt 1911 (or any pistol, long as it's a .45). Nickel finish, ivory grips, "no sights but increased hit chance". Call it the Robertson Special or the Weapon of Fate (because you're not looking at what you're shooting but you always seem to hit it... Probably a lawsuit in that name... WANTED FTL)

I wouldn't mind having a weapon named after me in a game.

As long as it is useful and looks cool.

I'd got for a location, namely a derelict outhouse in some random deserted place. One that proudly displays my name on a plaque that lies on the ground next to it. I love quirky things like that.

I'd go with location. An NPC can be ignored, a weapon could be useless, but a location is likely to come up in the story if they take the time to develop it. Most impact on the game as a whole. Unless I get like a tavern named after me that people just pass by in town or something.

Ah... I see. All I can say to that is "remember Duke Nukem Forever?"

This is nothing like DNF.

This is a select group of people (some of which are from Obsidian) working together on a project that they themselves have experience with.

There is no publisher to breathe down their necks, only fan support and the game has not been in development hell for over a decade.

Unlike DNF, Wasteland 2 will not be trying to combine aspects of the old days and the new and will be more focused on a single goal.

Both games are in completely different categories, and Wasteland 2 is a kind of game that has dwindled in recent years yet still has a strong fanbase.

Sooooo....... 'tis going to be filled with bugs?

Anyway.... yeah 'tis nothing like DNF but you must remember that DNF 'twas highly anticipated and turned out to be a giant turd.

Anyway, I'm not going to get this anyway. It sounded cool but then I saw the part where they mentioned 'twas going to be turn-based.

Uhhhh no, did you actually read everything on the kickstarter pages?

Brian Fargo and inXile will be doing the engine and programming:

And while we have brought Obsidian into the mix, I think it is important to note that this is my baby, and I will be producing it and managing the programming here at inXile. There seemed to be some confusion on whether it will be a joint production, but the main facets of our involvement are with the use of their tools for asset integration and the design talents of Chris Avellone. Part of the charm and variety of Wasteland 1 came from the way different designers would approach their areas, and I wanted the same dynamic again. Only this time we have added the brains of Chris into the mix, and I am betting he will add ideas to Wasteland 2 that would have never been in the game otherwise.

I don't have a problem with Kickstarter just people who ask money for non existing projects.

OT: I would probably go for the gun, but not just to name it I want to design the ************ and would then spend months building something that would rival the greatness of BFG 9000, like adding a flashlight or something...

A crashed fighter plane in the middle of the desert with the code ED-130 emblazoned on the side.

Inside would be some loot like a pistol/survival pack etc.

I would like to be a NPC who is cosplaying as Hakumen and guards his cave with a real size version of Hakumens katana. If you manage to defeat me then you can pick up the Hakumen katana as a misc item.
If you eventully reach a high enough level or get enough of a strength stat or something then you can throw it at enemies, it would be an insta kill.

If I had the money, I would go with a weapon. Preferably a SPAS-12 shotgun.

hmmmmm, would have to go with perhaps a Barret sniper rifle. in every game i ever play ill usually be sitting way out to buggery pissing ppl off (or pissing myself off for being a shit shot). and while being able to design it would be pretty cool, i feel like my effort would be just an inerasable embarrassment against my name forever more... would much rather tweak professional handy work than start from scratch
