Yup because games provided the guns.

Don't forget, guns don't kill people, games kill people.

I'll keep saying it - people have been shooting each other since the invention of the gun, not of Pong.

Just once I'd like to see someone argue violence in video games and modern military shooters is propagated by the prevalence of gun ownership in one of the largest market areas.

Not that I think it's necessarily true, it would just be a good laugh.

how is this new? The media blames videogames for everything all the time. Just like our media blamed rock and roll back a few decades ago.

I mean...hell i remember media blaming videogames as far back as Duke Nukem 3D. This may be a startling development for non-US countries, but here in the US videogames getting blamed/villianized is as common as rain.

Only difference is that someone else is jumping on the bandwagon.

It's known by pretty much everyone with access to a PC and TV that the NRA is full of the intellectually challenged.

They are one of those groups that is part of the laughing stock of the world.

What's funny (or not) is the irony, here is any politician on any given day.

Leave guns alone, second amendment

Games are evil and need to be banned to protect the children (forgetting that freedom applies to things other than weapons)

Ah yes, because the children were killed by the deadly weapon that is the video game case. Or maybe it was one of those old Xbox controllers.

I can't say I'm shocked that a gun association isn't going to blame guns to be fair.

Actually, the NRA also blamed rock and roll, violent movies, and "the media" for Sandy Hook.

And The Daily Express blamed Dynasty Warriors because LOL.
To me, there should be a rule about this. Have you played through a game made in the last five years? No? Then you have no right to talk about them in public.

People demand quick and easy solutions.

People wanted one quick and easy solution: Ban assault weapons.

NRA doesn't like this, so they looked for another goat to scape: Video games.

Yaaaay politics.

Oh look. We're being blamed. Again. What a surprise. Raise your hand if you're surprised at all about this.
*looks around for hands, doesn't see any*
Only thing that's (mildly) surprising is who's blaming us. It couldn't POSSIBLY be the guns that killed the people, it's obviously ME3! ...excuse me while I beat my head against a wall.

Well... I don't think anyone is calling for a ban on all games, or a ban on ANY games. People are just saying there should be ways to protect children from experiencing any violent games. So there's no freedoms being compromised on the game developers' side, just restrictions/guidance on the parents/children side of things.

And taking a step back from things, I'll say that younger children shouldn't be playing games like GTA or Call of Duty or what have you; there's certainly a little bit of desensitization going on there. But there is absolutely no way you can blame the game developers or even the games themselves. It's all on the parents, that's why the ESRB exists, after all--so parents can make educated choices even if they know nothing about a game. I'm sure so many of the parents that blame video games have purchased violent games for their children, and the blame game needs to stop.

I'll tell you who we should be blaming. The parents for clearly failing to recognise their son had issues and allowing guns to be accessible to him and the media for giving these fuckwits the massive amounts of attention and infamy they obviously crave.
