I find it funny that the single most destructive weapon that we as humans have ever created came out of the single most destructive conflict in human history. There will never again be a war on par with WW2 - if anything like that were to ever occur, nuclear weapons would come into play and human society would be completely obliterated. I say keep the nukes - yeah, they waste money, but they keep us in check, and they ensure wars remain relatively small.

Ever heard saying "If you want peace prepare for war"? I guess not, it means that in order to prevent large scale conflicts countries have to "prepare for war", that is to train armies, get weapons and so on, because another country won't attack you if you have formidable army.

I find it kind of irritating that we all have enough nuclear warheads ourselves to take out the entire world. Same goes for Russia. And now everyone else has a few themselves. Great, lovely, ugh....rather that we forget about those devices and just consider them old news...but that's really my major opinion x.x;

Well without Nukes all those ex Nazi scientists would have had there retirement funds dramatically cut, we built them not knowing if they would or wouldn't set fire to the atmosphere so testing them led to us finding this information out. We now know that the bombs didn't do this before hand.

It turned the UK into a floating Nuclear Carrier for many years with American listening posts on our soil being funded by the UK tax payer with the mandate to listen to our phone calls. It has now given with the fragmentation of the soviet bloc an unique opportunity for terrorists and despots to buy suitcase bombs for less money than a BMW. In Russia it's easier to buy a bomb than it is for me to get my mobile phone upgraded.

It did lead to some great British Punk Music being written in the Eighties though so that is the one and only bright spot in this sordid affair of one idiotic political system seeking to win a dick measuring contest with an equally flawed and corrupt system.

Also the Nato countries had more nukes stock piled in Western Germany than the Soviet Bloc did, our cunning plan was if the Russkies invaded was to nuke them with tactical missles! As we would never have beaten them in a land war as the soviet army was nearly double the size in conventional arms!

So yeah Nukes were a very very bad idea!

The fear of mutually assured destruction helped keep the US and the USSR from starting WW3. Nuclear power rules!
I agree with this kind gentleman. In my personal oppinion they saved more lives than have taken thorough the history.

Eastern European myself, I call bullshit on this statement. Any source of proof to make me think otherwise?

I see nothing wrong with nukes...they're essentially long range beating sticks, which I find hilarious.
Plus, we can't get Fallout without them.
But you're biased in the matter, you need nukes for your hobby.

We don't use them, because if we do, we're fucked. If one nation fires a nuke at another, the other will retaliate, as will their allies, and the allies of the nation that started it will pitch in. Result? Nuclear War.

They are very good at deterring war, as no-one wants to go down the aforementioned road.
