I've recently seen a lot of hate on the new NXE Avatars. I don't really hate them, but I don't really like them either. But there are some with a very outspoken hatred toward them, and I just wondered...why? If you don't want one, you don't have to spend any time customizing it, you can just pick a template and forget that they even exist. So, I gotta ask, why all the hate? Is it a matter of principal, or what?

I would imagine that people are just bitter about losing the blades. I miss them. But I don't really hate the avatars either. It's all whatever.

Where?
I haven't seen any hate.
I've kept my old gamerpic, but the avatars are still fun enough. Though I tend to get distracted by mine whenever I'm on the dashboard

They're a pointless gimmick that you can't disable. Precious minutes wasted between you and gaming the first time it's installed. After that, they're just pointless.

It would have been nice if they'd also given the option to keep the blades, but oh well.

I don't know if you realized this but we gamers are a big bunch of whining, spiteful, hateful, obnoxious little shits and we're never satisfied unless we have something to ***** about. Have you heard about Deus Ex 3? I heard they're going to upgrade the graphics what a slap in the face to us long term fans.

not just the avatars but the entire interface seems even more commercial than before, if that was possible, now there is one blade for the my xbox, and the rest is basically market place stuff...and the avatars are just stupid, no reason to go on a crusade, but it is just stupid, the same way that a shovel is just a shovel

Avatars are now being integrated into games. Let's see you think of a way to do that with gamer pictures.

Like Yahtzee does in ZP, give the picture arms and legs.

Although the blades were a good interface, the NXE interface isn't exactly the hardest thing to get used to.

The avatars are still a good addition although they look a bit too much like thw Wii's Miis,
they add a bit of uniqueness and personalisation to your profile, more so than just the theme would.

What annoys me about the NXE though is that is cut my theme background in half. I can only see the top half, maybe top third of the background now.

I personally like the NXE, although the avatars are awfully Wii-ish. They also pretty much killed my background theme I bought.

I like the blades. Avatars are kind of cheesy and silly rip offs of Miis.
Ugh, they're not rip-off's. The idea of Avatars like that featured on the Wii and new dashboard has been around for years. Some IM services offer it as apart of their program. It's not a Nintendo original idea.

I agree, seems like they are trying to broaden their target audience.. make it a bit more kid friendly.. which seems pointless.. that's why god created Nintendo.. every game system has their following.. so keep it that way..

It's the sheer uselessness of the thing that pisses people off. At least Home gives PS3 owners a half decent reason to bother, in MMO's it's kind of required etc. But as far as the 360 is concerned they do not really serve any purpose.

Exactly. All it was really just some idea a member of the Xbox team came up with after saying "Our interface is sub-par. Lets combine the Wii and PS3 interfaces." What really makes it bad is that instead of simply telling us "We are going to change the interface to make it easier to use. Sorry for our poor original" they put alot of hype around it as if they were giving you a new console inside the same hardware box for free.

In the end, it is just a new layout. Thats not bad. But since they decided to put hype around it and call it an upgrade, it caused people to raise expectations too high. If they did not hype it up, just like the other dashboard updates, people would not hate it as much.

By the way, I thought the old dashboard was good. Calling it bad was just part of the hypothetical quotes.

I don't hate them per say, I hate the whole system and Bill Gates for being a greedy spiteful bastard. Plus I find it funny that people are angry at xbox for making avatars like Nintendo when Sony's "trophies" are an exact copy of the achievement system.
