No, a game has never caused me to be frightened to that type of extent. Or at all really...

Glad you are enjoying Alan Wake!

Is it really that good? You have raised my hopes, good sir. It is currently sitting in my back pack. Too tired to play it tonight, but I'm starting it tomorrow.

I had a similar experience as a young lad playing legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time the first time I saw one of those crawling disembodied hands in the forest temple, it scared the shit out of me. I immediately dropped the controller and turned off the game, to this day I still haven't finished that dungeon.

When I was younger, so many things in that game scared the living shit out of me to the point of me not playing it, yet I could never stop playing it because it was sooooo good. A good example is of me getting scared of walking around Hyrule Field at night because those skeleton things terrified me.

Haven't played that. I think that if they make a graphical update to SH2 and change VERY LITTLE else, then that would terrify people all over again. Hey game developers!!! There's a sure-fire hit idea. Just a thought, I dunno. I've practically given up on scary games, I haven't been scared by any since forever. Just forget the run and gun, give me a basic melee weapon and no "SUPER WEAPON" (guns are acceptable with sparse ammo so they don't make the player more powerful than the foes), make the enemies intimidating in appearance and strength (NO rats...unless they're huge. Maybe try a beetle? Or a strange cancerous darkness?), and some psychollogicaly scarring and scary events for example, that random "happy birthday" song in the elevator from what sounded like a deranged lunatic, the "bloody mirror" bit, or the patient rooms. By the way, those were all from Silent Hill 3 I believe. Oh, and the scene where you're watching "Pyramid Head" through a closet, creepy as hell and makes you wonder what, if anything, that was supposed to mean. I'm not saying western horror is not scary, I thought "Paranormal Activity" was scary and "The Sixth Sense" gave me nightmares AFTER keeping me up at night. Sorry for the rant. I miss the good old days...when horror didn't involve one guy with overpowered weapons mowing through a horde of enemies who, earlier in the story, had overwhelmed a group of people with similar weapons.

Eternal Darkness made me fear...everything.

I cannot look at busts of people anymore (not like that, you pervert), I just can't. Not after, that scene.

Plus, I find it very hard to walk into bathrooms now.
That scene made me look over my shoulder at my bathtub more than once... pure mind screwing.

Random things that scarred me as a kid, Redeads and Dead Hands in Ocarina of time, seeing the Ring when I was about 11 and a code in the game monster truck madness 64 that turned all the pixels in the game into black and white photos of aliens or warped photos of the development team.

I know what you mean.
I made my sister so scared of that game that she looks at any other horror game and laughs
