Or, he may call Polish prime minister and ask him for advice and walkthrough. Don't be surprised if Obama registers on Escapist to ask for The Witcher 2 help. He may already have, actually. Too many Witcher 2 threads. One of them might be Obama's.TheYellowCellPhone said:I bet you he'll hold it out at arms length, declare "WHAT IS THIS!?", and give it to his kids or something.
This. That review was just Tito confessing how bad he is at gaming to the world.Xzi said:And unlike Tito, Obama will give the game a 5/5 because he won't need no damn hand-holding.
That's cuz Obama has already beaten the game before he even installed it.Xzi said:And unlike Tito, Obama will give the game a 5/5 because he won't need no damn hand-holding.
I'll have to agree with this philosophy mainly because the whole Prologue chapter would have been boring as a Tutorial segment since it has been designed with such care, that having someone hold your hand through each section would be a disservice to your enjoyment of each meticulously crafted scene.Xzi said:Okay, so I can spend half an hour having NPCs tell me "walk here, now press this button." Or I can skip to reading just the bit in the game's journal that I don't understand. I know which of these two gets my vote for piss-poor design philosophy. Like you said, the game has a tutorial. Any bit not covered in there can be read in the journal for those who need it. But not everybody will, as many of us played the first Witcher.poiumty said:I thought it's been a while since we all agreed that the old "here's a list of things you should know about the game, go spend half an hour reading them all and not playing the damn game" is an outdated and piss-poor design philosophy.Xzi said:Or, you know, instead of expecting a boring twenty-minute long tutorial at the beginning of every game, you could just press J. Seriously, brings up the in-game journal, and everything a noob could possibly need to know is in there.
I much prefer that. The hand-holding is there, but only if you need it. Not forced upon you.
A tutorial is hand-holding? Really? I can respect a game that doesn't place a huge PRESS THIS BUTTON sign on every interactive item, but having a tutorial is hardly holding anyone's hand.
Nor does it have to be forced upon you. A skippable tutorial is never a bad idea.
But regardless, the game DOES have a tutorial. It's just very, very badly designed.
Seems we've moved backwards in intelligent/convenient game design. Or people have just become more stupid over the years. Likely to be a combination of both.
