First of all: Daystar Clarion, shush.
Now, you may remember that I was shilling a new Kickstarter (Obduction) a few days ago, and we had <link=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/7.831354-Myst-Studio-Brings-Obduction-To-Kickstarter>a news story on it.
Well, the predicted swarms of die-hard Myst fans came, saw, and donated. So far, we have 9200 backers having placed over $502,000 into the project, with a couple people putting over $4500, and one putting in over $10,000. The Kickstarter is already almost halfway to its ambitious $1.1M goal.
And Day Five isn't even over yet.
It appears that Cyan may have struck gold with this one. Seeing how their output since Myst V has been nothing but a string of criminally underplayed free MMO (which is pulling in less donations than it needs to stay alive, currently), the protracted death of Cyan Worlds looked to be only a matter of time.
However, with the fanbase so very eager to grab hold of an original new first-person-point-n-click, it seems that the old masters still have a chance of survival yet.
Cyan Worlds are most famous for the adventure classics Myst and Riven, and you can take a look at their new Kickstarter, Obduction, and see if you're willing to toss a few dollars to get this thing rolling.
