I was contemplating the same thing since my PS3's HD is full and I need some data to delete. It's fun to play now and again, but vanilla just gets boring and underwhelming. Mods would really spruce it up. I was also thinking about getting Recettear
This could be a totally dense question, but can you download games from steam onto your ps3? I know steam is, sorta, on the ps3 so could I, potentially, download Oblivion onto my hard drive? If not, they should totally do that.

Short answer: yes.

Long answer: well, yes, clearly. Get the GoTY Ed, 'cos the modding is really well supported, and it's worth the money if only for the side-quests (granted, the side-quests are actually more interesting than the main story, and the main quest in itself is not that bad).

Though if you're anything like me, you'll play through the tutorial before leaving your computer, sitting on the couch and crying: 'why did they kill Patrick Stewart? why?!'

I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, ever. I really didn't like it, I really really tried to because as an RPG fan, I felt I was like supposed to, but I couldn't.

Get it! GET IT! Dear god, get it with the GOTY edition expansion pack. I've played it so many times, it is worth twice it's current full price and you're getting it for a steal.

No!

The Steam version causes big problems with modding.
I have the Steam GotY version and have found it to be no hindrance to modding. The only real difference in modding the Steam version vs the retail version is that you drop a pair of DLL files into the installation folder instead of running a separate program for more advanced mods.

Back on topic. If you have the slightest curiosity of what the Elder Scrolls series is about, Oblivion is a great point to jump in. More accessible than Morrowind, it still keeps the general theme of the franchise that you're able to lose yourself in another world and go pretty much anywhere you wish.

While I did find some of the later story a bit lacking. Buying the GotY version will more than make up for it in the Shivering Isles. Simply, a must buy.

Be warned. You're going to spend a lot of time modding just because of how vast the modding community is for Obilvion.

Yes, then mod the living crap out of it. Oblivion's not my favorite game, but a lot of people like it. Plus, Bethesada.

I spend around 50 or 60 dollers on my Oblivion game. I feel like I didn't waste a single doller. Get the game of the year editiion and Mod the crap out of it.

ZOMG Oblivion is on sale?! After being forced to sell my PS3 copy when my PS3 broke I've missed Oblivion, and was sort of considering re-buying it for the PC. Now I'll definitely do that.

I say get it. Ever at full price that game is well worth the money. Not without it's flaws, but you;ll get many, many hours of gameplay not counting the expansions and DLC. Also, while I've never used them (I had the PS3 version) the mods are supposedly really good, and fix a lot of bugs.

From personal experience? No.

Based on everybody else and their opinions and what not, you should get the Game of the Year Edition.

Well, if you want to play as a naked cat girl vampire thing cause you love mods go for it. Otherwise it's a grind and managing to get all of the mods you want working properly is such a complete chore that it isn't worth it, and vanilla Oblivion is boring as shit.
