Oh yes. You're given so much freedom in that game. You should get it.

Oblivion has a lot of great things, and also a lot of MEH. Lots of huge MEH. I'd recommend getting the PC version and modding the combat system within an inch of its life.

I preferred Fallout 3 but Oblivion is alright, you can probably pick it up quite cheap now which is a bonus

if your an old school pc rpg player or a fan of morrowind you might find it entertaining at first and then quickly realize what a disaster the vanilla oblivion game is.

However, if thats the case you can mod the game to oblivion (yuck, pun tacular)
With balancing mods like francesco's or oscuro's you can really make a great game out of the toxic dump bethesda pawned off as a finished product

I never had this problem... Maybe you're just doing it wrong.
The only thing I found is that leveling up either Alchemy or Speechcraft were horrendously difficult.

More than worth it.

You will get so much playtime out of this game. This game was one of the best purchases that I ever made. I got it for $20 with a free copy of BioShock one of the best deals ever.

Eeeeeeeeeeehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, maybe. Rent it first if you can. If you REALLY like it, then go ahead. I made the mistake of BUYING it outright based solely on recommendations from other people and ended up hating it.

Worst way to spend $30, EVER.
This. I absolutely adore Bioware and can't stand Bethesda. Fallout 3 was OK for me but not a favorite by any means. Bethesda has weak characters in my opinion and weak lore that you have to work too hard to learn in the first place. I spent more time in Oblivion hunting deer and dungeon crawling than anything else and the main quest was so dull it felt like torture.

I say rent it. I looooooooove RPGs but I can't do TES. Morrowind I would recommend ironically. I may even rent the new one to look it over but Bethesda has never given me a real good payoff for buying one of their games. I thought Oblivion was going to and I was very wrong.

It's an awesome game and I got it for the 360, PS3, and PC (don't judge me, it was different years apart). The PC version is pretty entertaining, if just for the mods. Go to TESNexus.com for a lot of different mods (... and yes this includes the nude mods and new body mods too). Right now I'm in Elswyer, trotting across the sands, meeting new fellow Khajiits, and having three different little kitty girls and Taokaka following me. You can also get the construction set, so you can make stuff for yourself. I suggest downloading the CM Companions Mod made by Blackie if you want some companions to follow you around. Not all of the companions need the CM Companions Mod, but a lot of them do. There are also a lot of different graphic enhancing mods if your computer can handle it. I like to fiddle around with the Construction Set as well.

P.S.
(open console) ~

(select target) *click*

(enter command) kill

saved me on multiple occasions.
I'm not much of a tgm type of guy. I do like the tcl feature though.

P.S.S.
(open console) ~

(enter command) Player.CreateFullActorCopy

Create an army of one! (play on words, there's a lot of yourself)

Those commands are just basic ones though, I know a whole lot more.

Also the Game of the Year Edition with Oblivion, Knights of the Nine, and Shivering Isles, is only $19.99 right now, so there's not much excuse not to get it.

Look it's cheap as hell right now, and it's a great game. Scratch great, it's phenomenal. You shouldn't need any more incentive.

Pick it up cheap then either:

come to the conlusion that it is a dud after 6-10 hours and decide to mod the crap out of it so you can wield a lightsaber, make everyone dance to "what is love" then proceed in decapitating them

or, love it and play it over 100 hours like myself

either way i think its worth it for the $20-30 it is these days

It's $19.99...
I believe I already said that, anyone in america that is spending more that $20 for it (excluding tax) at this point, is severely mentally challenged and apparently not even allowed in Walmart anymore after they got a glimpse at they're I.Q.
