Oblivion on the Playstation 3

After working on Tanthalos's problem, I have discovered that some of the PS3's versions of oblivion has some corrupted data for different parts of the game. It doesn't seem that the same disc has the same problem in the same place, but instead, on his 2 discs, his greatest hits edition had corrupted a part somewhere in the vicinity of Chuhul (the town with the monastery for your main story line quest) and would not allow you to travel anywhere outside of the towns on the western part of the world.

His Game of the Year edition, though, had corrupted data in the goblin area of the starting run through the game, so whenever you went through the door, it stopped.

The way the PS3 works, is that as you play through, it saves data from the disc to the hard drive, so as you play, the size of the saved game file in the utility gets bigger. But at each loading part for those areas, the PS3 would attempt to copy those files, and being unable to read them properly, fail and say the saved game data was corrupted.

The way I was able to get it to work was i played the Greatest hits edition til I was in the sewers just after the king dies, save, change discs, and continue. I then went through a quick replay of the entire beggining, without deleting the game utility data, and it worked prefectly. Atleast it did even when i quick traveled

To summerize:
Bethusda needs to get a better CD burner!

the game of the year edition has one HUGE flaw that ruind my game. once you turn into a vampire, you cant change back. if you do the quest to get the antidote, she wont accept the bloodgrass, even if you have it. it sucks. you have to be extremely careful when fighting vampires. i had to start over with an argonian because argonians cant become vampires unless they you ask that dude in the dark brotherhood to infect you.
Never had that happen before... You could have tried getting rid of the patches on your console and then turn in the quest... I know in one of the expansions you can just bath in some bath thing to get rid of vampirism...

I could have sworn I had an argonian vampire at some point... without going through the dark brotherhood... Seeing as how vampirism is a disease and argonians only have like a 75% resistence to diseases. So as long as you have no bonuses to disease resist you can become a vampire as an argonian it will just take alot longer to contract the disease.

that bath is only for evil charecters on the 360.

I got the game of the year ecition, and I dont have a part that crashes, however, out of all my games oblivion is the only one that ever makes my ps3 crash.

It's on the PC too, though you still have to shell out money for it. Technically anyone can use it though (I think).

At least in Oblivion if you become a vampire the game can continue, with a little more upkeep, in Morrowind if you got infected the game basically stopped until you cured yourself.

Strange. I didn't have that problem when I played it on the PS3 last year. Don't even know why I bought it. I find Western RPG's to be very soulless.

It's cause of the game or either because of the model of your PS3 , i'd go with game and just refund your version for another one.

The only way i can think of is to back up your save data on a hard drive (except the oblivion) and then format all utility then restore all the data and boot in oblivion again , thats bound to work if not then you just have bad luck

I have oblivion(the original) on my ps3 and have yet to experience any trouble. It is probably your disc.

This is why I avoid multi-platform games on my PS3, inferior ports unfortunately.
Just look at The Orange Box.
or Blazblue. Oh wait...
(also, I still say that if you are playing a valve game on a console you are asking for trouble)

I can taste the fanatical devotion through my screen. Oblivion GOTY Edition was the 3rd game I ever bought for the PS3 and after playing it for several hundred hours I can say I've never ran into any glitches that caused my game/PS3 to crash. The Bethesda standards of NPCs in objects and whatnot are there, but thats in every version. The vampire glitch does not make the PS3 an inferior port. And don't even get me started on the Orange Box and Valve.

Sucks that your game is screwed up, try deleting your old game saves, or try to find a regular GOTY Edition.

I don't know for sure, but I'd lean towards to ps3 port being a mighty leper. With AIDS.

Seriously, I don't mean to fuel the console flames wars (but every tool who misreads this will most likely respon with OMFG xbox and PC are shit!1) but the playstation architecture is very, very different to that of a PC (as the xbox is essentially a windows based OS). This makes it very difficult to make multiplatform games work well, and that often games that are released on multiple platforms will be inferior on the ps3 when compared the the Xbox/PC. Oblivion is a hugely complex game so I would be inclined to say that the devs have missed some of the unavoidable bugs that would spring up from time to time.
That and it is Bethesda's first PS3 game and as I recall and their second one, Fallout 3, didn't turn out great either (on the PS3).
There is nothing wrong with FO3 on the ps.I have it on both PS and PC and find it to be awesome all the way around.

Now that is one game breaking bastard of a bug.

Still, you can just spam restoration spells until you're a high enough level to cast Cure Disease any time you get it (you only need to be Journeyman in Restoration to do it).

It's a lot handier to just cast a spell on the spot than having to repeatedly rush to chapels as soon as you get out of vampire filled dungeons...

Actually upon release and up to release many review sites and other professionals observed more crash bugs and more jagged textures in the PS3 version. If I recall it was also in a lower resolution.
