There is a Fallout 3 mod to make the land fertile and green and whatnot. I think it's kinda stupid. I mean, that's kind the whole point of Fallout; removing the post-apocalyptic wasteland setting from Fallout is like removing Sauron from Lord of the Rings.
That would be the most interesting drama/sitcom of all time.

uhh. no. why does everyone have to have the sandy desert setting? we STOPPED the desert setting at fallout 2. it worked well. fallout is about humor, not the land.
Sorry, I didn't mean it like that. I mean, of course there's sometimes green in the Fallout world, like in Oasis, but having the entire world randomly turn inexplicably green while still having the NPCs talk about how we're in a horrible desert wasteland is not a good idea.

Actually, my roommate is working on this exact thing right now. He also put Halo's Mjolnir armor in, but the guns are his real task. So far, he has succeeded in adding in the Assault Rifle, Sniper Rifle, and Magnum. He's working on adding different types of ammo at the moment. I can see if he can WinZip it for beta if you guys want to check it out.

I've never played Oblivion and while that sounds like a fairly entertaining idea, wouldn't that defeat the purpose of playing a medieval fantasy RPG?
..........I think you are the only gamer in existence who 'hasn't' played Oblivion.

No... it really wouldn't be.

Fallout 3 has VATS, no magic, and a very different atmosphere - an almost horror genre feel.

They wouldn't be alike at all.

it would suck, sir.

As cool as a blunderbuss would be, I say they should have made crossbows, but gunpowder doesn't fit in the game.

Imagine shooting a troll with it... Lame.
*sniff* Is that irony in the air?
Yeah, definitely irony.
OT: I hope to hell that in the 5th game, they're gonna implement all those stuff that were present in Morrowind (throwing weapons, spears, pauldrons (hehe) etcetera), plus crossbows, plus uberly overhaul magic. And close combat. And ranged combat. And skill progression. And add perks. And actual classes that have an impact on gameplay.
Guess that's just wishful thinking.
It doesn't fit in the game. There's no irony. It dosen't matter if it was cool or not, shooting at trolls with a gun doesn't make sense.
Fast forward 300 years, it'll make all the sense there is to make.
And anyway, Oblivion has pirates in proper pirate warships, which means that there absolutely must be cannons around. No substitutes.
Pirates existed for hundreds of years before gunpowder.

Hundreds.

Anyway, it would also go well with some animation mods...

And you know how arrows stuck in people? They should have little blood splotches on their clothes now.

Oblivion, and a touch of steampunk to get cool weaponry. Someone should make that :p
In fact, someone should make a whole freeform RPG set in a steampunk world. Kinda like Arcanum, but in a Fallout-like engine (or better yet, a Gothic-like one...). I'd love that.

I know, I know. But people ask this pretty often, I'm sure they know the answer by now.

Sounds cool as hell... hope it works with pirated copies of the game (yeah).

Shooting a troll with a missile launcher lame? I call shenanigans because that would be the funnest damn thing ever. I hate Oblivion because of the gore. THERE IS NONE. Fallout at least fixed that but i want to be able to at least kill a giant ass troll quickly because in the alps part there seems to be three more waiting around a boulder just waiting to catch you off guard.

I'm sorry but... really?

You measure the worth of a game on gore... yep, not bothering to take your word with even a grain of salt, not worth my time.

Forget Oblivion with guns. I just downloaded a mod that allows me to play Sims 3 with guns! It uses World Adventures' camera interface to create a sniper rifle. Gives new meaning to the term "point and shoot"!

Oblivion with guns would be more dwarven. Thats why people shouldnt expect the TES world to advance much technologically since without the dwarves, tech advancement is near stand still.
Of course, such guns would either shoot magic or be rather steam-punkish.

Yeah, I've heard people say that before, and I'm sick of it. I've played both Oblivion and Fallout 3, so here were my thoughts while playing Oblivion:

"If Fallout 3 really is Oblivion with guns, then I could really go for an AK-47 right about now."

They're similar in many ways, but:

Fallout 3 has better:
- Leveling system
- Combat
- Voice Acting
- Story
- Interesting Areas
- Interesting Characters
- Main quest
- Replay ability

While Oblivion has:
- Better and more abundant side-quests
- More fun special abilities and magic (Magic opens up a whole new world that Fallout 3 couldn't touch)

Oblivion was decent, but Fallout 3 was by far superior, and goes far beyond "Oblivion with guns".

"Oblivion With Guns" is pretty much what was running through my head the majority of time I was playing Fallout 3. That is to say, they took the Oblivion engine and added a few things, guns among them, and the result was Fallout 3. They even handle stuff like armor and equipment wear identically.

But I see what you're saying - running around the Oblivion landscape with guns. I don't know - can't see much appeal to it. If it's mass destruction of fantasy creatures you're looking for, go get one of those cheesy super mega death spell packages that let you cause mobs to explode when you cast spells on them.
