As everyone is saying daedric shrines/dark brotherhood/theives guild are good fun. For side quests I would say the one where you go into some lady's dream, the magic painting/paintbrushes, the whodunit at one of the castles, and the quest to retrieve some artifacts for the duchess (or whatever her title is) of Bruma. Also the cure for vampirism quest is kinda interesting.

Don't you get that from an unrelated Daedric quest?
Yes, its been quite some time since i loaded up that particular buggy piece of software. My mistake.

how what? are you saying i have or i would have if i had played for 20 hours and not meditated?
Ah, sorry, I thought you had played for that long without resting. So yes, 20 hours of play before a rest = thoroughly screwed levelling

Shivering Isles was the only part of that game I enjoyed. After finishing it, I tried going back to Cyrodiil and was just so bored. Seriously, Shivering Isles should've been made into a stand-alone game and that would have made for a much bet Elder Scrolls 4.

I had the most fun with the Thieves Guild and the Dark Brotherhood and the least fun with the Oblivion gates. But that's just me. If you're not finding a particular set of quests fun, just don't bother. The game has tons of other ones on offer.
This. Absolutely. Oblivion has a ton of mediocre quests, and I found the most fun in just random dungeoning, the thieves and brotherhood quests and just checking out all the possible gameplay styles (constantly trying out new classes). Also becoming a vampire should be interesting. Never tried that myself though...

It depends on how you like to play too, do you like being a sneaky rogue/thief/assassin or do you prefer to be a warrior/knight type or do you prefer to set your friends house on fire as a mage?

Depending on how you like to play depends on the guild missions you take on and the side quests you will find entertaining/challenging/interesting.

Are you interested in story/Roleplaying or just running around lopping heads of skeletons and vampires?

I liked playing both Morrowind and Oblivion (some people are probably gonna think I'm crazy for saying that but oh well) because of story and roleplay, I liked to think about my character, my class my race and my skills and take on jobs and quests accordingly. I even did the main quest lines in the same vein has I did the guild and side quests, if I was playing a thief I did things in a more stealthy, sneaky *run up and stab and then run away* style then when I was playing my *hack slash repeat* Nord warrior/barbarian.

You can do all the guilds and become supreme lord of all the guilds in Cyrodil (Not in title but in your mind at least) and get some epic gear or you can just do the ones that interest you.

But I guess I can recommend the Dark brotherhood quests, Shivering Isles expansion, Knights of the Nine and the thieves guild quest lines.

Like I said, it all depends on how you like to play, I liked to play a Roguish/Bard style character who would just pick a direction and wander off looking for fun and adventure he could then go home and brag about but its all up to you.

The best thing I've found about Oblivion is that it came with Bioshock and even there I felt rip-off

geez i never knew there was so much hatred for oblivion and so much love for morrowind.

anyway i normally play these sort of games as either a mage or warrior or knight. so this time i combined them and am playing as a spell blade. sword and broad with some pew pew fire balls

Yes. You get a hat that lets you murder anybody with no consequences for leading the thieves guild.

Ok so i played oblivion a far bit back when it came out. never finished the main quest or anything like that cause i got bogged down i nthe 1000 other quests.

Anyway im giving Oblivion another go since Skyrim is coming out later this year. Im focusing on the Main quests first but after that i have no idea what to do. I think i have all the expansion/addons etc.

What are some of the better/epicer quests to focus on. Like i dont have to do every little quests. I would prefer to focus on the better ones.

Thanks
Throughout the game people talk about a crazy preacher guy. Go find him, it starts what I think is the largest side quest ever. If you have any negative karma/reputation you travel all across the map to these shrines to get rid of it, then collect a suit of some ancient hero's armor and finally have an awesome boss fight IN THE SKY. It really is a great quest.

Dark Brotherhood. Definitely.

Aside from that, anything that fits the character. All of the faction quests are reasonably interesting.

Oh, also Shivering Ilse, because that's fun in a psychotic fever dream sort of way.

Finally, ffs, Morrowind was not that much better than Oblivion. I started the series with Morrowind, loved it and dumped close to 1,000 hours of my life into it. Then Oblivion came out and I dumped roughly the same amount of time into that. The two games are different, yes, but they do different things right.

When I heard Skyrim was coming out, I tried replaying the series (I even got Arena and Daggerfall off the Bethesda site, but those things are so unwieldy by today's standards that I gave up). 10 hours into Morrowind I was so bored or traversing the same areas 50 times I switched to Oblivion. And then got bored 10 hrs in because of the stupid enemy leveling.

That being said, my boredom was simply due to how much time I've put into them both. My point is, I've played both game recently and I still can't tell you which i like more. They're both extremely good games. Why can't people just accept that?

Thank you thats the sort of response i was after.

that is like the number one reason i stoped playing before. i realised their wasnt much point to gaining levels and it all went down hill from there. thats why i like that skyrim is being compared to fallout instead of oblivion when it comes to leveling.

From what I understand a lot of people seem to really enjoy the "Dark Brotherhood" questline.

quick question. if i dont meditate do i lose XP?

like i have needed to meditate for a while now and still on level 1. say i play for 20 hours and never meditate, when i do meditate will i get like 15 levels at once?
You still level your skills up, but you won't get that bonus to your abilities when you level (Instead of a 3 bonus to str, a 2 bonus to wis, etc, etc, it'll all just be a single).

And you need to rest 15 times, but they can be done in a row.

tl;dr, you fucked your ability levelling.
I assume by meditate he means sleep? to gain a level.

In that case, you actually CAN get more then single bonuses.

the trick is, every 10 major skills you level it locks in any skill bonuses you got while raising those skills by 10 points.

So at level 1, say you level Block by 10 (major skill), but before you do that, you level Restoration by 4 (Minor), if you meditate as soon as possible, you'll get the option for +5 endurance and +2 willpower. If you DON'T level up right away, but instead level up acrobatics by 10 (Minor) before raising Alchemy by 10 (Major), when you sleep and get your first level, you'll still have +5 endurance and +2 Willpower, and when you gain your second level, you'll get +5 Speed and +5 Intelligence.

The game remembers what skills you levelled up in each set of 10 major increases and plays them back as you gain your stored up levels.

Thieves Guild quests are awesome. I gave Oblivion another shot recently, after not liking it very much, and I went right to that, and it was awesome. Also did the Arena, which is pretty cool.

After that, I dunno, I lost interest.

here's a question, why is Oblivion now impossible to get for the 360 in the UK
(I'm talking game of the year edition) it's £25 pre-owned and £50 brand new!
I wanted to play it thru again before Skyrim release but there's no way I'm paying that for it!

Don't bother with Oblivion's main quest, it was the most disappointing thing sine Highlander 2.
There is NO way that the main quest of Oblivion is as disappointing as Highlander 2. Nothing except The Last Airbender was as terrible and heartbreaking as watching the lieutenant from Starship Troopers degrade himself in what my have been the worst sequel to a movie ever made.

OT: The Dark Brotherhood quests are fun, but really what you want to do is make up your own quests, objectives and guidelines. One I went through a fort with the rule that I had to kill the next enemy with the weapon from the previous enemy i killed (there were vampires in there and they always have some sort of weapon). What I also did sometimes was I would look at those preset classes (Barbarian, Bard, Monk, etc.) and I would try to clear out areas using only the combat skills contained in that class description. Little things like that made Oblivion my favorite game.

Get mods. Seriously go get mods! Also if you didnt start with Morrowind and played Oblivion second, its probably going to be not as enjoyable as these guys say it is.

Wow, some series hatred for Oblivion, just cause its different doesn't mean its bad. There were things that irked me, like all the NPC's sounding the same and looking the same and what was with making all the elves look weirdly alike aside from skin colour?

But they were trying something different, it didn't work, that doesn't mean it was bad, it just means they have to improve it for Sykrim (which from what I have seen they most certainly have).

If your playing a Battlemage type character as you have said then I would recommend the Mages guild quests, the fighters guild quests, the Arena and the strange Invisible village quest up in the hills some where... I cant remember where it is but there is a desolate seemingly abandoned village that has been made invisible by a mage/witch/ whoever, that was always a fun quest.
