First off, sorry if this topic has been done before, but i was just curious about this. Do you have a game that you love, but no one else seems to of heard about it? For me its Freespace and Freespace 2. Both are amazing space flight sims, that had a cool story, awesome ships and some of the most intense space battles I have ever seen. It has a nice modding community also that keeps bringing in fresh content (warning if you go to their forums, dont mention star wars vs freespace lol) but Ive never really heard of anyone on the Escapist boards that has said they have enjoyed or even played this game. SO now with my piece said, Does anyone else have any games that they think need a little lime light?

I'm not really sure if it qualifies as obscure... but no one in my social circle (quite a few are life long gamers) had ever heard of BlazBlue. I'm sure people here have heard of it, but for those who haven't it's a fantastic 2D anime fighting game. It's quite hard to come by where I live, it seems to hardly ever be in stock in the main places, such as Game and Gamestation, but for reasons unknown to me HMV seem to always have a few copies.

Metal Arms: Glitch in the System.

It's a third person shooter starring a little robot named Glitch. Who joins a droid rebellion against the evil Mil overlords. It's a really fun and challening game that includes a bunch of weapons, humorous moments, multiplayer, and Dan Castellaneta, otherwise known as the voice actor of Homer Simpson.

Not many people knew about it because from what I heard, the game was released on the same day as the original Prince of Persia for the PS2.

SaGa Frontier 1 & 2.

I love everything Squaresoft did on the PS1...

But those games are never mentioned. Anywhere.

For the Xbox-original there was Voodoo Vince, Whacked, Obscure (also on PS2) and, Otogi; Myth of Demons. I love those games but they don't get many nods or mentions. Voodoo Vince was a platformer featuring a voodoo doll. Whacked was a 4-player party game with some great PG-13, Ren & Stempy style humor. Obscure was a survival horror which takes place in a high school after dark and features 5 playable characters. You get different endings depending on how many of the characters you can keep alive. I think the final boss is a supposed-to-loose fight anyway. Otogi is a spectacle fighter taking place in ancient Japan. You are a demon tasked with killing other demons and freeing innocent souls by destroying the scenery in each level. The bosses were mostly huge and awesome to fight.

I raelly love blackops but nobody else has really heard of it so??
Nice trollin'.

I'd have to say The Void. It's grrrrrrrreat and is one of the only games I know with a relaxing rather than frustrating game over screen.

Pariah for the original Xbox, it had a map editor, a small but friendly community and awesome gameplay. Yet when I say the name to people they look at me strange. I know it wasn't popular because you got in the top 30 just by playing more than an hour, I just don't know why nobody knows of it or played it, it was a good game, even if I was playing with the same 10 people every single match, every single day.

Also, Unreal Championship 2, still a great game to this day, but nobody plays it.

This thread made me remember Tonic Trouble for the N64.

Not a good memory.

NieR isn't too obscure nowadays, but it is very underrated. None of my friends heard of it, and even I didn't hear about NieR until March.

Deadly Premonition.
It's just about as obscure as it gets. It's essentially Twin Peaks + Silent Hill with RE4's gunplay. I got it over the summer, and spent hours finding secrets. I should probably go back and 100% it.

I loved freespace 1 & 2 as well however while i loved the myrmidon and ulysses as well as the vesudan horus i much prefered psygnosis' metal fatigue a lesser known gem that didn't recieve the attention it deserved sadly.

Vagrant Story, one of the more difficult RPGs on the PS1, and also one of the best. Unfortunately at the time of its release it was coming out close to two other big Square titles, Final Fantasy IX and Chrono Cross. Because of this, Vagrant Story was mostly ignored at release and it continues so today by most people. But Sqare is bringing it to PSN so that's good.

I've played Freespace 2, it's very nice, especially with a joystick.

As for my own favourite obscure games, I more or less like The Planescape: Torment, Gothic 2, The Escape Velocity games and overall all kinds of old, strange and relatively unknown games. Probably because I get sentimental and nostalgic thoughts from playing them (I played those kind of games as a kid, and the feeling of playing "forgotten" games is just quite sad).

Also, there's an Obscure Games Group if you're interested in it.

The Nomad Soul. A real gem, but you don't hear it mentioned often. And it's got David Bowie in it!
