I didn't recognize that there was an R before the P in "surprise" until like a year ago. None of my teachers ever marked that word as spelled wrong in any of my papers all throughout my schooling. It's a sad day when my country can't tell the difference between proper and improper english.

Also I still don't have a clue what language they speak in Africa. I know there's some French in there near the top, but other than that...african? Pretty ignorant of me, really.

What about you guys?. Are there any facts that you only recently discovered that shocked you?

A lot speak either French or English, there's also bits of Dutch, Afrikaans, Swahili and loads more. And then the language differs in areas from where the tribal areas used to be. It's very complicated and that's as much detail as my brain allows.

They speak hundreds of different languages in Africa. There is no ONE set language (as Africa is a continent...) There are languages that are different for most of the tribes in Africa. Most, are some derivation of the French language though.

OT: The word "bed" looks like an actual bed.

Oh I see, thanks for the info. I knew there had to be more because I also discovered that Egypt was an african country and not a middle-eastern one.

Erm, probably where all the countries are on the map, I only figured that out by playing Hearts Of Iron.

It was a godsend.
Hearts Of Iron thought you the world map?. Thats impressive!.

Yea, I see why you'd get that impression from pictures of Middle-Eastern countries and Egypt, they are rather similar because of Islamic culture. So put Arabic in the language count as well.

I realized WAY too late that I'm good with a guitar on my hand...
Why can't I retain something so simple as the G minor harmonic scale with an augmented 5th? WHYYYYY?!!

Last month my girlfriend and I planned a road trip to Italy but neither of us could take our own cars at the time so we opted for the more expensive rental car option (it was bigger so could carry more people and luggage). Throughout the entire trip I could never figure out which side the fuel tank was on when we made stops, until on the return trip back to UK, I finally realized that if you look at the gas gauge (subsequently this is in most modern cars) there is a little arrow telling you what side the tank is on.

Niffty eh?

That scale would sound horrible, that's just augmenting the fourth and the fifth, effectively moving the scale up a semitone for just two notes.

Moderately confused.

Umm ... I actually care about in-game relationships (Damn you Dragon Age. Daaaammmmn Yooooooooou!)

Actually, that is the only game I have ever played where I cannot bring myself to make people hate me (well, my party members at any rate), I mean, in fable I killed everyone (except Fable 2, I saved my dog), in AC2 I kill civilians by poisoning nearby guards, in Infamous I brutally murdered civilians by draining their life out through their face, in online games I never used to be able to turn down a 'be-friend request', in Prototype I kill people for the lulz (I know it doesn't count but I am running out of examples) etc etc ad nauseum

EDIT: Yeah, my knowledge range is either really big or very small, either way, it doesn't grow too much.
