Obviously Hacked Items in Borderlands (Xbox 360 version)

Howdy All

I was just having a quick blast on Borderlands on my Xbox trying to sweep up a few achievements I missed on my first and second play through. Somebody gifted me a very obviously hacked orange shield that has well over 200 million hit points.

[Extra info for those interested] I was in somebody else's game using my L19 Mordecai when a L1 Mordecai dropped into the game. He went straight for me and challenged me to a duel. Thinking it'd be a piece of piss to waste him I accepted. Couple of blasts from my explosive shotgun did nothing, he then dropped the shield in front of me, waited for me to pick it up then left the game [/Extra info]

I have no moral quandary in using it because I'll be doing a single player run to 100% the game so I don't feel as though I'm cheating. I also see a fair few people using what I can only assume are hacked items. Therefore my question is twofold:

For me: Can I be penalized/banned from Xbox live by using hacked item in Borderlands?

For discussion: Ever seen anything ridiculously overpowered and clearly hacked within the game?

Spray your knowledge and experience all over me Escapians...

Since you're planning on using it solely for single player, I don't see the problem. I'm not sure what the official policy is on these things, however.

Back when I played Delta Force 2 there would always seem to be at least one hacker on a heavily populated server. You could always tell who they were, as they would always be the flying, teleporting soldiers that shot rapid-fire grenade launcher rounds. It wasn't too bad though, as you could still snipe them if you had good aim.

if it's on single player, I don't really care. If it's on multiplayer, then I do care.

I play on a minecraft server, and we have our fair share of hackers. From people who fly, to people who xray to mine diamonds, the server tends to make quick work banning them. We had a problem in the game with the recent addition of pistons. People were able to duplicate items, and they did a damn good job doing it. We had someone with over 100k diamond gems. Now, the server is going through an inflation, and diamonds are common around the spawn. The game is almost on god mode, as diamonds are hard to find, but now can be seen everywhere. Luckily, the reset we're going to have soon will hopefully fix that.

Thanks for the input guys. As I say I've no problem using it in single player (it would make my shameless score-whoring far easier!) but I'm worried about getting banned from XBL.

I have a friend who was put in a hacked lobby in MW2 (matchmaking, you cant choose who you join, its random) and got his whole Steam account banned. No previous warnings.

Thats pretty much how 90% of the games indsutry deals with these things. So yes, if youre caught it is very likely you will get your xbox live account or your entire xbox banned from online play.

Then again, Borderlands is pretty old so I doubt theyre still looking for and punishing hackers.
Interesting stuff, though I assume his was a PC and multiplayer issue, despite being nothing but an unfortunate twist of fate for him. It's still stuff like this that makes me nervous. Many thanks for the input.

Correct.

My brother has had one for as long as the game has been out really. Not once been banned

They allow weapon/shield hacks because most everyone does them. Me? Not so much. I prefer non modded stuff.

Hacking is the life-force of multiplayer these days, so don't worry about it. If hacking bothers anyone they need to look for more co-op experiences. RPG fan? Try um....Two Worlds...

FPS fan? There's always um...GTA4...oh wait...

I had the same situation. This guy dropped a normal stock rifle that did about 99 damage time 23876584 or something. I saved it for after I beat the game.

Turns out when you kill someone with it, it wipes them completely from the game.

I make my own items, so yes, I've seen enough hacked items. Especially fun are weapons with something like +200 ammo regeneration or near-instant reload speeds. I also like my 24 billion health shield with high health regeneration and no level requirement, it is bugged and it never decreases in shield power.

I no longer play the game, not because the items ruined the game, I hated the game and modding in my own items made the game fun for a few more hours.
