Are there any near you? There is one in the city close to the town I live in but its likely going to be disbanded due to snow/homeless people taking over the camp. It did move to a new location but I don't see it going that long. So far the police haven't really had to deal with them although recently fires were banned.

Any round your parts? Any violence or is it peaceful?

The one in my city got shut down and fined...
Then the whole movement disbanded in the area.
Then the trolls moved in on the facebook page.

Also they ruined the park.

None here. there is nothing here to occupy that isn't a small business, which kinda defeats the point.

I know there's one in my city, as well as the nearby city of Portland. Beyond that, I know nothing about it or how it has been going. It could have stopped for all I know.

My state is rather quite (to the best of my knowledge) so nope. It is all cool here in Washington state. Then again, nothing fun or exciting or even news worthy tends to happen here anyways so I doubt as if it will now.

Yes in Hyde Park last I heard, the police have been accused of police brutality, and well have been forced to stay back with all the cameras.

My guess they didn't get the proper permits. Yeah you actually need permits to have a protest. It may seem stupid but its also because they can really really disrupt the way things work.

In my area? Nope, just lots of red necks and conservatives. There was bleeding heart idiots out protesting the tuition fees here but the fact that I'm at a private university and they could easily choose to go somewhere else cheaper kind of blows a hole in their argument.

They were kicked out of the first park, and were told they were allowed to use a park that was away from everything

Because that defeated the purpose, they found another park, and were evicted from there too.

POLICE have moved on Occupy Brisbane protesters squatting in Queens Park, their temporary camp following yesterday's eviction from Post Office Square.

Got a few close by, one in my town. Both are mostly non-violent. Some people have vandalized. Some are boycotting places like Bank of America, and trying to prevent people from going inside or withdrawing.

One close by occupied a port and stopped trucks, and completely filled the freeway.

Occupiers? In MY Vagina?!

Actually I live in a little town in CA called Oakland. You may have heard of our shenanigans.

I've been down to the occupy camp several times (I work a few blocks away) and yes, I was there on Wednesday when we shut down the port.

The media is doing a splendid job of skewing what's going on down here by the way.

Edit: To elaborate a bit more to the OP's questions:

It's been almost entirely peaceful. The actual protesters are down to earth, most of them are educated, a ton of the people that came on Wed. to the strike were middle aged "baby boomers" who were taking part, and the random spats of violence have mostly been from Black Bloc anarchists. The protesters actually had to fight them off during the late night break-ins etc.

But the protesters themselves, super nice people. There was even an awesome hippy chick giving out "occupastries" and I made a bunch of friends down there. Fun times.

I don't doubt that at all. They need to make every arrest a huge deal even here where it's way laid back.

In San Francisco there's one a mile or two from Pier 39. They took a large traffic island, the city was nice enough to plant a few Porta-potties nearby and it now looks like a refugee colony. There are also two smaller protests, one in the downtown area close to several bank branches, and one by city hall, those are mostly small and non-disruptive.

None of this is particularly uncomfortable, but still ugly as hell. I traveled Europe earlier this year and saw a few tent colonies protesting wars in the middle east and gypsy persecution, those had nice murals and art installations on site, so they seemed more inviting and for the most part they had well spoken and intelligent spokespeople. Not something I can say for the occupiers.

I thought that was rather the point. If your protest is quiet, reserved, and out-of-sight, then it's doing a piss poor job of raising awareness. And if the target of your protest is the State (even if only in part), having to ask for permission from that same State to protest strikes me as a little off. Surely people have thick enough skins to survive having to see and hear a protest on their daily commute into and out of work. If the slightest disruption to our daily routine or sense of normalcy is so dire that we need to send police in to gas, beat, and shoot people, then I think we've got a problem.

OT: There was an Occupy protest up in Tokyo, but they didn't do any actual occupying, mostly because the cops here are draconian bastards. I heard a non-Occupy anti-nuke protest in Shinjuku was swarmed by a mob of cops, almost double the number of protesters. They hounded the march until they found one person violating some bylaw, took him down, arrested anybody who argued with them, and declared the march cancelled. I've also heard of one Japanese woman who's set up a tent outside the Diet building and has stayed there several days in protest. So there's a token amount of resistance here.

I haven't had a chance to make it out to Occupy SF but lately I've been hearing.....stories.....

I don't know, I'll probably stick with Occupy Oakland. No point in taking BART over to SF only to verify if these stories are true. Plus, Occupy Oakland has a shload of nice people and is closer for me.

When is Oakland not protesting something that turns violent because of that small screwed up group that seems to plague anything people try to accomplish there?

OT: Savannah, I think there was, but, haven't heard anything about them.
