Wait a second. The Mars Volta came out with a new album? News to me. Though not unsuprising. I should hope its better than Bedlam and Goliath which was (in my opinion) not very good. Its actually been my opinion that their albums have gotten progressively worse over time. Deloused in the Comatorium was their best by far and its goen downhill. Don't get me wrong I love The Mars Volta I just think they need to get a little less pretentious and little less "progressive" and regress a little to back when they sounded good. To me Cedric and Omar were at their best when they were in At the Drive-In which may have had something to do with the mass amounts of heroin they did.
I'll have to check this out though.

Octahedron is lots better than Bedlam. Also, it's a lot more controlled and actually mellowed out. The majority of the songs are kinda like Televators. The drumming is also much better then in Bedlam. In the true fast song "Cotopaxi" the control stays the exact same as it was through the entire album. It's a great album.

A little more info please?
The Mars Volta is a 9 person progressive rock band formed by the former lead guitarist and former lead singer of Post-Hardcore band At the Drive-In. Octahedron is their 5th studio album, in my opinion their best release since Frances the Mute.

Their pretentiousness got to me as well. They were definitely best at the end of At the Drive-In/beginning of The Mars Volta.

I enjoy The Mars Volta because much of the fun in listening to their music is just trying to figure the stuff out. The time signatures never stay constant, and I love it! The Mars Volta= 10/10 from me always.
