A Hermit's Cave
& women, since I don't want to be gender exclusive when I ask this question.

But chap(esse)s, presumably a fair proportion of you are sitting at a desktop as you read this garbage, or at a laptop...

For those of you who are: how do you move the cursor? Or rather: what path does your cursor take when you need to select something with it? Is it straight from point A to point B? Is it some circuitous route you can't fathom? Does it take detours on the way? Does it pause to take a breather because it doesn't like exercise?

Me? And I can't for the life of me justify why or tell you when this habit start, but unless the cursor is already in the top left hand bit of the screen, I will move it such that it describes a large clockwise directed arc... then stop... then move it across (in whichever direction) about twenty pixels & *click*... -_-

Now you...

That's a new question.

I suppose my cursor usually has a curved sort of slant, but the sensitivity is high enough that it rarely takes longer than a second for it to reach whatever I wanted to click on, so it's not something I've really paid attention to before. If something is straight above or below the cursor's current position, I'll do a sort of snake-like motion while moving it, and if it's above/below and to the side it'll curve like an inverse tangent approaching 0.

I never take the straight path (hurr hurr), I always move it in a big curve, because hey, take a walk on the wild side.

Umm I don't really waste time when operating the mouse (you know, other when I do it to waste time and play with the cursor), so I move it the straightest way possible (given the fact that I still have to move my arm, and that makes it slightly curved). If possible, I'd scroll the page and then move the mouse, if it'd shorten the path. I don't use pointer acceleration because it's created to taunt me, also I use the keyboard shortcuts where appropriate, since it usually saves on mouse-moving time[footnote]But I've yet to start using Ratpoison on Linux, however, I will one day[/footnote].

I tend to move in sweeping arcs, I've no idea why, but I suppose I've found it to be faster/more accurate/easier on the hand.

That's a different question... Sort of a curve, I suppose. Nothing terribly pronounced, but I suppose it feels better on the hand. Or something.

I'm going to be noticing this all day now, thanks.

I had never thought about it, but I'm now using my mouse manually and consciously, trying to figure out what my "normal" mouse path actually was.

Thank you very f*cking much.

i'd say i attempt a straight path. cause efficiency but watching it there seems to be a slight arc which i assume is something to do with how the muscles work

Oh man, I'm a freaking spastic when I move the mouse...picking it up, moving it around the screen like a madman. I'm sure my mouse cursor travels a good 3km throughout the day!

When idle I sometimes trace infinity symbols across the screen, but when clicking I move immediately, in a straight and precise motion, to what needs to be clicked.

I also keep my mouse sensitivity so high that I can move it from one end of the screen to the other while only moving my wrist, and never have to pick the mouse up off the pad. Other people find it infuriating, but I'm so used to it anything else seems really aggravating.

Yeah same here, doesn't this count as a misleading thread?

Arcs and the occasional straight to business mouse strokes for me. I usually just use keyboard shortcuts most of the time, so I'm not exactly that mouse heavy.

Perhaps the title should've been "Of Mouse & Man..."?. Might as well put this thread out of its misery...

OT: I move my mouse straight to where I need to click it. The less trials between me and content the better.
