of the movies you have seen this year, what is your favorite?

Of the new releases I've seen:
1) Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2
2) Jane Eyre
3) Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides

Would it surprise you to learn I've only seen 3 new releases this year.
But I'm still looking forward to seeing:
1) Fright Night
2) Jonny English: Reborn (maybe)
3) Breaking Dawn Part 1 (yeah sue me but I've seen the other films and, even if I'm not a fan anymore I want to see it through to the end)

- this movie with young Leo, i don't remember its title... He went with some French chick and her boyfriend on some island somewhere near Thailand, where everyone was smoking drugs and stuff.

The Beach?

It's a quite poor Danny Boyle/Alex Garland film. Not half as good as 28 Days Later. Boyle's biggest mistake was to use Leonardo DiCaprio instead of Ewan McGregor.

Of the movies I've seen in the cinema this year, my favorite is easily In Time. The brilliant pacing is what won me over, and people really need to just live with the fact that yes, Justin Timberlake can act his ass off.

Real Steel, HAND FUCKING DOWN! I just plain loved that movie, and I wanna buy it when it comes out on DVD.

Real Steel was a massive surprise, just a fantastic, fun, great looking, well acted film. Loved every second. Also Michael Bay take note you asshat this is how you do robots fighting.

It's either that or Xmen First Class. Again a surprise and extremely enjoyable.

Was Black Swan out this year? If so, Black Swan. If not, then Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.

As far as "good" films go, Drive is my #1 so far this year, followed by 50/50 (it caught me off guard how good that film was).

Of movies that were "fun", Fast 5, followed by Captain America.

Of course, I still have to see Anonymous, The Rum Diary, In Time, X-Men and Sherlock Holmes in December, so who knows.

EDIT: Of movies I'm going to be watching more than twice, Paul. I forgot that came out this year.

X-Men: First Class.

It really surprised me, after the huge let down of X3. Closely followed by the pre-crossover movies on the run up to The Avengers (Thor, Captain America)

I second and third that.

Drive and Leon are the only movies that I have any memory of watching this year, and of those two I like Leon more. But I still think Drive is a damn good movie.

The only movie appealing enough to make me go to the cinema this year was X-men First Class, which I very much enjoyed. Great acting, great soundtrack, plenty of action, intriguing story, and all in all, a very entertaining movie. While it wasn't without its faults, it was infinitely better than any of the previous X-men movies.

Without a doubt, The Tree of Life.

In my opinion, one of the best films in the last 10, 15 years. Absolutely breath-taking. I was on the verge of tears purely from the beauty of this film.

Well I've only seen X-Men: First Class, Thor, and Captain America: the Fist Avenger this year, and they're all good. But I'd have to say the best of them was Captain America.

Captain America followed closely by X Men: First Class. Both really good movies that actually exceeded my expectations despite me being psyched for them.

Exit Through the Gift Shop was such a fun movie to watch, I really wanted to do some street art after it was done.

God, I've only seen a couple of 2011 films. One was Captain America, the other was a Jason Statham flick that flew under the radar. And why the hell haven't I seen X-Men: First Class yet?

I'm going with Cap.

Films I saw this year:

Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2009) - Swedish adaptation is intelligent, gripping, clinical yet brutal and superbly paced. A great thriller.

Into the Wild (2007) - One of my new favourites. Thought provoking true story with excellent cinematography, spot on casting and moving music.

Requiem for a Dream (2000) - From the director of Black Swan, this film's final 20 minutes features some of the most provocative and disturbing imagery ever shown in a wide release film yet. A powerful, harrowing and technically outstanding innovative film with oscar worthy performances.

Of those from this year:

13 Assassins - So much awesome, so much blood...

Source Code - Brilliant follow up from the director of Moon. The ever watchable Jake Gyllenhaal proving he is one of hollywood's brightest stars.

X-Men: First Class - Probably the second best superhero movie of all time.

Arriety - Ghibli's latest feature is yet another masterclass in story-telling from the legendary Japanese animation studio.

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, enjoyed that movie immensively.
It demands full attention and knowing the story beforehand does help, but in exchange you get a slow-burn story with excellent casting (extra props to Oldman & Cumberbatch's shared screentimes) and stylish visuals.
