No, I'm not bothered by it. I'm just wondering why they did it. They could've put her in any kind of environment. Why put her in that environment with that type of gameplay? The setting is a dystopian 1984-esque world. Why make THAT brightly colored? Bright colors aren't the first thing that I think of when I think dystopia. Why risk making the player think, "Hey, this kinda reminds me of Portal"? Does it have something to do with their choice to make the lead female? Would the game have looked differently if the lead had been male
That's because it's not a dystopia, it's an anti-utopia. The difference is that dystopias are just plain bad (think Rapture by the time you get there), while anti-utopias seem good, but they're bad below the surface.

About the game itself, I loved it. It was so unique and different. Yeah, it's short, but IMO, a game which is unique and fun (portal's another good example of this) is worth more than a cookie-cutter FPS sequel 3 times it's length.

Really? Here's hoping they put some missions like the Prologue in, you know, where you're just delivering a package rather then saving Kate. That was my other gripe, you never really got a sense of what it was to be a runner.

That's fantastic news! I was wondering why there were still so many unresolved plot points at the end of the game...

Isn't everyone's utopia someone else's dystopia anyway? And according to the dictionary, anti-utopia = dystopia.

OuroborosChoked, I see what you're getting at and I'm with you. I see some similarities with Portal as well, just in terms of the overall design of the game. Of course, they are still completely different games, but there are more than a few respectful nods dotted throughout Mirror's Edge. Some of the finer details could just be coincidental, but it's fun to compare the two.

Both games are about getting from A to B in interesting and unusual ways, and challenge you to think differently. Both are fairly short but are just the right length, and both challenge you to improve your technique to get through the levels as fast as possible. Both use the colour white throughout, have hidden graffiti, and have a female protagonist. Even the sublime title music is called Still Alive - and although that is obviously a coincidence, it's still kind of funny. I think of it this way - if Mirror's Edge was a band listing its musical influences, Portal would be in there.

I think the thread title sums it up quite nicely - I absolutely love this game. It's going to go down as one of a select few games that have caused me to descend into a kind of fanboy delirium. It has its glitches, and the combat isn't great, but it really struck a chord with me as soon as I saw the E3 trailer. The colour, design, and architecture are superb, and negotiating the landscape with the parkour game mechanics is an absolute joy. I can understand that the game is not for everyone, but for me, that's part of the appeal.

I can say the only thing about ME. This FPS parkur tricks shoud be default for any FPS game. And that is the reason I didnt appeal to this game. Parkur is cool but it is not worth of making game based on this tricks alone. Demo is fun but from helicopter point you just feel game is becoming boring. You do same stuff all over. You run same roofs all over.

Cool but not worth it. Play the demo and forget it.

Unlike Portal Mirrors' Edge's campaign is utter garbage. The true appeal of the game, which it has in spades, is found in time trial mode. The star system works perfectly. One star for a decent run, two stars for a tight run on a good route and to get 3 stars you need to achieve zen like perfection on a perfect route. It's awesome.

It's interesting how people have such polarized opinions about ME. With most games there's a clear consensus as to whether the game is good or not, but I'm seeing a lot of divided opinion here. Maybe it just doesn't "click" with some people.

The thing about the bright whiteness of the city is supposed to be representative of a sterile and inert society that doesn't question or rebel or anything like that. Hell even the trees are bleached white somehow. The idea is that the beauty is only skin deep and even then you can easily see the flaws.

Also the ending moments of the game are perhaps one of my favorites, if just for seeing myself

Okay, so here's a question: if the city in Mirror's Edge was based on any city in the world, what city do you think it might be based on?

My vote goes for Hong Kong.
