Yep. I lose credibility. Read up, read the responses to this, and then you will see just how much credibility I have lost. I get that you aren't fond of me Cleverlymadeup, but wandering around from thread to thread like this with snippy little comments isn't the best way of dealing with that.
The old movies are something different. They were fun for reasons which are lost on you. They never had aliens, they didn't have Indy married and fighting arthritis, they didn't have "Mutt" irritating the hell out of everyone.
You just don't get the point. It isn't that things were "better", it is that you don't take an old idea and fuck with it just for the sake of being different.
What movie is from your generation? Dark Knight? Right, lets say that in twenty years time, someone remakes the Dark Knight but instead of Batman being a dark and tortured soul trying desperately to stop a sociopathic psychopath, it turns out that the reason the Joker is the way he is is that he got abducted by aliens who inserted a chip in his head. Batman decided to become Batman because he was a world sporting champion who decided to use his athletic ability for good. And, rather than Batman trying to fight the Joker and his henchmen, he has to find a cunning way to stop the alien weaponry from working and interfere with the alien mind chip.
Wouldn't that make you go "URGH! FUCK!"?
actually the very first movie i saw in theaters, on it's original run, was Star Wars. yes i'm in a generation before you. so there goes your theory right about me having no clue. i was still young when i saw Raiders of the Lost Ark, on it's original theatrical run as well and the same goes for all the Star Wars and Indiana Jones movies.
in fact i'm probly the only person in this thread who can actually claim something like that. actually i'm probly one of the few Escapists who can actually make that claim.
so once again you have NO clue what you are talking about with these movies, the Indiana Jones movies are based on the old pulp novels and the pulp heroes of the 30s-50s. if you bothered to listen to ANYTHING Lucas has ever said about Indy or Star Wars, which is apparent most people have not, then you'd understand and know that aliens fit right into the scheme of things.
as for aliens no fitting in? sorry to say but they make the best fit for Indy based on the time frame of the movie. during the 30s and 40s of the original 3, there was the war with the Nazis and the Nazis liked the occult stuff. the 50s were all about the Russians and .... drum roll please ...... ALIENS.
you still look at the original ones as a child and put it on a pedestal. maybe you should actually watch the movies as an adult and see it thru the eyes of an adult. you wanted the new Indy movie and probly Star Wars, to bring back your childhood, which it can't and will never do. so grow the hell up and don't look at it like a child, look at it like an adult.
