Looks interesting, and apparently they are going down the route of the main character being sexually fluid with her lovers. That scene with the woman at the end definitely had some sexual undertones to it.
If I remember my Ghost in the Shell properly its because the Major is canonically bisexual.

I seem to remember something about being able to link cyberised bodies during sex in order to boost and share sensations making it far more intense; but it can only be done with someone of the same sex with the same body parts because if you try to do it with someone with different body parts then the signals get confused if you touch something they don't have and cause pain.

After writing the above I looked it up and...boom, I was right; though it should read "should only" not "can only" in what I wrote above:

Edit: Totally forgot to comment on the trailer. I'm still eh. I'm not really convinced this film is a good idea honestly (though its still a better idea than that damn Death Note series they're making). Also the way she's portraying the Major is a bit...weird. Like how she was holding the gun and waking up, she's playing the character very robotically which is completely at odds with the fact that despite being a cyborg the Major simply didn't move like that at all. She was completely comfortable and at ease with her prosthetic body, a true expert with it.

Did they have to spam us with the Ghost in the Shell logo every 5 seconds in between clips? That felt really unnecessary.

That scene with the woman at the end definitely had some sexual undertones to it. Beyond that, eh, she doesn't know how to hold a gun in that one tracking shot of her walking down the hall. Her arms looked really out of place and awkward holding the gun in front of her. Other than that, it was pretty light on...well...everything.
It's five seperate teasers put together, think that tracking scence is her being confused at what's in front of her and thus slowly lowering her gun.

She comes of as nervous and scared which would make sense coming up on that Hive Mind like thing as for that other scene think that's her coming out of a Ghost Dive so it's less waking up and more coming back to that body.

Visuals are on point, which is most of GitS appeal. Have to see some action though to see if they're on par.

Looks like just another 12432354234523453245# dystopian sci-fi flick. Watching GitS, both the films and series - it wasn't a dystopian future. People still have lives, people still had a relatively good living standards and people most certainty didn't gather around dingy damp cellars wearing monk outfits.

The world was certainly more chaotic and more insecure socially and politically speaking.

Oh, and the guns? Did they get them from an antique shop?
Oh, it certainly is dystopian. It is just hidden behind a facade of cleanliness. Most of the rest of the world is a giant shit hole due to nuclear war and only Japan has managed to come out on top due to radiation scrubber tech. I recently got the first volume and there are a ton of shady things going on. Child slavery and turning people into vegetables to make more life-like sex dolls are things that happen in Japan.

Yeah, that's about what I expected. Lucy meets the Matrix, and everyone looses.
Stop with the hyperbole jeez. I get it you have an axe to grind with scarlet Jo, but we haven't seen a full scene, much less an actual trailer to judge.

So it looks like they're trying to mimic the movie more than the show or comics given how they're focusing on the Major's weirdness and distance rather than her being a confident murder machine. A bit odd, considering how much harder that will be to turn into a big budget Hollywood movie than "Cyborg anti-terror squad in the cyber-future." Hopefully it works.

As I recall from the previous thread about this film, her sexuality isn't very clear, in that there are about 6+ different "canons" to choose from, and they don't always follow the same lines about her sexuality. I remember people pre-emptively getting angry/offended, because they assumed that ScarJo was going to depicted as straight, because reasons, even though there was zero information on the subject at all. At least with this trailer there is some evidence (however speculative) to go by.

5 different 10 second trailers? Well that's just silly. As to the shot, she still looks like she's holding it awkward as hell. I don't know if it's just the camera focus/angle, but she looks like she's got her arms bowed out at the sides, like she's trying to hug something, and just happens to be holding a gun at the end of her hands.

I'm going to assume you never watched Scarlett Johansson act -- she's best in these types of roles since it allows her to turn her lack of skill into something viable.

OT:
Sigh.

Just fuckin' Sigh. When I started watching the cinematic universe of Marvel I liked Scarlett. Now I'm so sick of seeing her fuckin' face playing the female hero (you know the one). I really am.

I showed the teasers to a friend who is a big fan of GitS and all they said was "What did I do to deserve this?"

About sums up my opinion also.

Well with due respect, Child Slavery is a thing that happens now, and while currently I know of no crime syndicate that's managed to do an upload of a human brains into lifelike gynoids, that's more of a sideways step to the current trend of just using lots of heroin and beatings. So while these are terrible, deplorable things I don't think it alone qualifies GitS to be a dystopia. Certainly not when compared to say, Judge Dredd.

It looks very Ghost in the Shellish, so I'll give it a try. Disappointed to be reminded of the whitewashing, but ScarJo is good in a scifi/inhuman setting, as Under the Skin shows.

It's five separate teasers stuck together. Each one starting with the logo and ending with the title.

Granted, whoever edited the video could have spared us the repetition.

That looks decent. Actually it looks better than i've expected, aside ScarJo being kinda awkward.

I see they're following the more dystopian aesthetics of the movie rather than post-cyberpunk SAC.

I don't know if its some kind of latent bias coloring my perceptions but all i can think about when scarlet was on screen is "that is not the major".

Her resting face and what facial expressions she showed reminds me more of Amelie Poulain or a random actress from some french arte house film.

Edit: a friend put it in better terms: she constantly looks "doubtful" whereas the major is determination in motion. Motoko in the series always moves with purpose and does not do any unnecessary facial expressions because she is a cyborg. Even when things go bad she doesn't look like a noob stumbling around with her gun looking all lost and clueless like some puppy.

Looks very Ridley Scott-esque from what little is shown. I wouldn't be surprised if the script were a repurposed Bladerunner sequel/spinoff.

My one question is: who is the guy who just dumped his revolver's shell casings? If he's a bad guy then he just left evidence behind, if he's part of Section 9 then he just made more work for other people at a potential crime scene to inventory casings. Either way, that shot literally exists just to make the guy look like a badass and it annoys me more than it probably should that he just dumped his casings out like that without immediately reloading or switching out the cylinder with a fully loaded one. Police your brass.
