We all know the purpose of trailers, be they for movies or games, is to show them off.

The music for these things is always what gets me though.

Here's the new Skyrim trailer, for those who haven't seen it already.

The game is looking great, the engine looks very shiny and all that, but the best thing about this trailer for me, is the music, it makes my soul shout out. I just want to climb the highest rooftop and scream "FUCKING AWESOME!"

So, even if the movie/game is terrible, what are your favourite sountracks from their trailers?

I've watched the Skyrim track like 7 times now, just to hear the music.

Edit: The music from the trailer must be made for the game/movie, not some licensed music simply edited into the trailer.

One of the Mass Effect 2 trailers had an amazing soundtrack. I'll make sure to link it if I can find it later.

People don't use the word bombastic enough.

Bravo to you, sir.

Otherwise... no comment.
The funny thing about bombastic, at least to me, is that it doesn't really sound like a word to describe how epic a piece of music is. It is a great word though.

The music in the Skyrim trailer is the fucking main theme of the Elder Scrolls series. Belittling it as 'trailer music' is, quite frankly, an insult to the composer.

Why not just have a thread on good music featured in films and video games? Why have such an obscure and stupid topic as music in trailers, when all trailers use are either mainstream music that's been overplayed on the radio for months already, or scores specifically composed for the entire film/game, not just the trailer, or fucking Carmina Burana and Quantum of a Dream, or any of those other overplayed tunes. Point is, we've all heard them before, in more than just the context of the trailer, and in more memorable ways than in a trailer.

Really, I don't get why people think themselves clever when all they do is put some new, stupid spin on the "What's your favorite X?"

Bombastic trailer tracks? How about bombastic music in general? yeah..

Btw, the music track can be found videoless and without voice over on youtube, so you can really drink in the choir.

EDIT: Oh my! someone repaced the main themes to Morrowind, Oblivion an Skyrim and played them over oneother. And it sounds awesome!

To sort of echo Hubilub, let's only have original music here, none of the recycled-over-and-over mainstream shit.

Not sure if these two can pass off as bombastic, but I'll be damned if they aren't epic.

I've edited the OP slightly, so that tracks must actually be made for the game/movie, not just a licensed song.

That was awesome, although I think the Oblivion theme clashes with it slightly. Makes it a bit too busy at some points.

U mad?

Seriously, get off your fucking soap box, I know it's the main theme, I just like how it's implemented in the trailer.
And since you liked something it immediately warrants a thread. You're so starved for attention that you make this giant neon-sign saying "HEY EVERYONE, I LIKED THIS, CONFIRM THAT I SHARE THE OPINION OF THE MASSES". You couldn't make something clever out of it, like talking about what it is with the trailer that makes the music stand out, talking about what it actually is about the implementation of the music into the trailer that you like so much. No, you put zero brainpower into creating a brainless thread, a recycled thread that has been done countless times before with a slight variation of what X and Y is.

Now feel free to keep ignoring your own idiocy, dismiss me as a troll when all I do is point out the truth, and continue begging for attention from people you hope share your opinions on fucking trailer music
U still mad?

You talk about attention whoring, yet you've thought to post in thread because, wait for it, someone on the internet has annoyed you! RAAAAAGE!

Chin up, it's not that bad. you could just not have commented in the first place and continued your crusade throughout the forums, righting wrongs and mocking repeat threads etc.

I know I probably shouldn't even respond to this, because if it were anyone else I'd automatically assume troll, but I guess out of some remembrance for a time when you took the time to be nice to me when I was a new member, I just thought I'd ask for a little courtesy and manners on these threads. People complain about how these forums are descending in quality, but if even one person takes the time to be civil, then at least that'd be one less person bringing the mood down.

Sorry. On-Topic again.

I always thought the Halo trailers actually did a fantastic job of drawing you in.

Say what you like about the series, but the music has always been fantastic. And in the game itself, songs like 'Finish the Fight' are just epic numbers which really bring home the emotion of a situation.

Actually, just go listen to the Halo soundtracks. All the way through, have them on in the background while you read or something. Brilliant music, well composed.

I certainly agree with you there, I hate the story for the Halo games, but the music has always been brilliant.
I wonder what Marty O'Donnell will be working on next.
I always like the little piano snippets in his work. It will be interesting to see where he goes next. Unless he's been imprisoned by Microsoft, hereby doomed to repeat the same music for the inevitable milking of the franchise without Bungie at the helm.

I think you're throwing out the baby with the bath water on that. There have been some truly great trailers cut to trailer score or existing songs.[footnote]As in not every single one is cut to Requiem for a Dream's main theme.[/footnote] The process is also ultimately the same, video editor cuts his trailer in time with the music. In some ways having original score can be even easier because you can edit a video with temp score/music and then it's on the composer to match the beats with his piece.

I can't believe Two Steps from Hell hasn't been mentioned yet. THey are a group that pretty much specializes in epic bombastic trailer music. Heart of Courage, for example, played in the ME2 trailer is their handiwork.
