Enjoy your public school holidays while they last OP. I've got two tests tomorrow so I can't go to the midnight release :(

Amazon messed my Skyrim order up and I have to wait until Monday apparently to play it. At this point in time your arguement offends me as you'll still be playing it before I do. /sigh

I feel like I'm missing a religious holiday.
You need to understand the difference between Christmas and the second coming of christ. Tonight is the latter.

The store I preordered my copy from is...3 states to my south. I didn't think I'd be in Maryland this long but I'm stuck for a while. I'm not only missing Skyrim, I'm also missing Saint's Row 3 until about X-Mas. I'm going to OD on anticipation by then...still, it sucks you can't make it to a local retailer tonight.

That's why I don't try to do midnight releases. I'm pretty much in the exact same situation that you're in, although I'm not getting Skyrim (saving for Assassin's Creed). I figure that even if I *did* go to a midnight release, by the time I got home I would be too tired to fully enjoy the game. I don't know if a thought like this will keep you from staying up thinking about it, but it helps me. I simply think: "I've been waiting for *insert large amount of time*, what's a few more hours?"
But I swear, if I can't get a ride to pick up Assassin's Creed on tuesday, I *WILL* walk (or bike) to go get it. Google maps tells me that's a 12 mile trip from my house to GameStop.I don't care. I'll grab $65, my permit, and a house key; then I'll put on my coat and shoes and walk out of the house. I'm just kidding, I think. I don't know if I'm really that strong-willed, but I guess I'll find out if these misfortunes occur...

Lazy much? Just fucking walk! Unless it's like 50 miles, then I couldn't blame you (although you did say local), but Jesus man, you don't need to take a car everywhere.
I could ride my bike, but it's about five miles away, uphill, and altogether too much effort for just an hour of waiting in line before going back home.
Or you could just wait a day or two before getting it. Playing it ASAP is not that big of a deal you know and chances are with Bethesda's track record it's going to be really buggy and so it'll all be fun and games until you fall through the floor while fighting a dragon you were about to kill with one more hit.

I'm just waiting until tomorrow, I pre-ordered it and if I read my thing right it's going to be delivered to my house. :O And if it doesn't get here well the nearest Wal-mart is only 20 miles away and the cosmos aligned at my work and my boss gave me all weekend to play Skyrim. :3

All obstacles are removed as quickly as they're found, there is nothing that holds me back.

5 miles on a bike is nothin'. And I live in the UK. It's tiny compared to your big-ass ol' USA! Prob'ly a mite safer, though.

Carrying a highly anticipated item even three miles (probably more like ten) through the open at 2:00 AM isn't really such a fantastic idea, you know.

OT: University is sapping all my sympathy to people who can't attend midnight launches. (glares at fifteen-day project)

5 miles on a bike is absolutely nothing. If its uphill, that just means that the ride home with the game will be a quick coast, which is really the trip you want to be shorter right? The hour in line thing is just a necessary evil, you're doing it for the game.

On the other hand, I don't want to encourage someone young from developing poor sleep habits. You probably don't care now, but take it from someone who's been there. If you burn the candle at both ends, you will regret it later in life, and no amount of regret will allow you to take back the bad decisions of your past.

Also, did you know that you can donate one or all of your vital organs to the Aperture Science self esteem fund for girls?

The Sims 2. Ohmahgosh. It got delayed over and over and didn't get released until about a year after it was originally slated for release.

The day before it came out I got stomach flu which, after ending, became a regular flu.

I was too sick to go to school...

My mom had a "if you're too sick to go to school, when you're too sick to play video games" policy.

For two weeks I was all like AUUUUUUUUUGHHHH!!!!

Also that was the year I was starting middle school, and I was so nervous I thought I was gonna die before I'd ever get to play it XD Obviously that never happened, but yeah.

If you can't get a copy, don't threaten to blow up the store.

Er...blowing up the store without warning is also bad, don't do that either.

Mine would definitely be graduating college in a proper time (with no debt)
First, I had to switch majors because I had to follow a very narrow set of classes, taking cores as fillers. Instead of them telling me this BEFORE I chose classes, I instead found out when I had gone into second year and they started telling me I was missing prereqs left and right. They also told me that since those prereqs were offered last semester, they wouldnt be offered again for TWO YEARS.
I began following the curriculum for my new major, with my old one as a minor. Everything is going great, until they tell me that I was supposed to follow the curriculum of a freshman that had started the year I switched, where some cores had been swapped. More Dead classes.
I am now near graduation, and am only kept from graduating next semester because networking has a prereq of OS, and they wont let it be a coreq.
I won't even start with money issues caused by this. Mostly because Skyrim awaits.

I regularly attend a live art show called Super Art Fight. Fun way to spend an evening and the guys who run it are very awesome and open to talk with fans. Great way to spend an evening if you can catch them. They mostly operate in the mid-Atlantic states (based in the Baltimore/DC area) but have been doing some New England and Northeast US shows.
Anyway, the once had an open call for more artists to try out. I was stoked and wanted to try out. Turns out it was scheduled for the same day as my sister's graduation from high school in Atlanta. :(
Not quite video game related, but the anticipation was just as high for just as much of a let down.

Well...good news is if it's 5 miles uphill (and come on...5 miles is NOTHING on a bike) then the way home is 5 miles downhill with Skrim, which means you get home a whole lot sooner.
