No need to feel self-conscious going to the gym. Everyone there will be too busy doing the same thing you are to notice you. They will teach you how to use the machines by a simple request, so any fear of being caught using a machine wrong shouldn't be much of a problem either.Porygon-2000 said:I've been thinking a lot about going to join a gym.
Massive steps, I know, but right now i'm just too self-concious to do anything like it...
Does that username come from Eisenhorn, by any chance?Betancore said:snippy snippy
Yeeeah, being decent in casual situations doesn't always transfer very well. Having a kickabout in the park with your mates is one thing, but spending a full 90 minutes running backwards and forwards is something else entirely. This decision was made when I decided that I'd rather do something other than running to try and be less fat than usual. Whoo! Productivity!
I enjoy playing it and I'm somewhat decent at it, at least in casual situations that is.
You're going to need to keep fit if you want to play well. Very fit.Genocide is the most exhausting activity one can engage in, next to soccer
Rowing is awesome at Uni. where are you going to do it?Emperor Platypus said:I'm thinking of joining a rowing club when I go to Uni. I hate those rowing machines but actually being on the water is kinda nice.
Plus I tried it once and turns out I'm a bit of a natural. I didn't freak out and used slow and powerful.... strokes? Is that how you'd call it? Whereas the rest of the guys didn't really seem to grasp the concept. So they put me in front of the boat hoping that the rest would take notice of my rhythm and would join in. (yay it feels good to be good at something)
It appears this thread has been necro'd... Whatever.SonicWaffle said:Yeeeah, being decent in casual situations doesn't always transfer very well. OT: I've been thinking about joining a gym for a long time. The side-effects of some medication I'm taking have made me really fucking fat. I just keep telling myself I can't afford it, and when I get home from work I'm always too tired (and self-conscious) to go for a run and...yeah. Excuses, basically.
It depends where you play, I guess. A goalkeeper (hopefully) won't be doing very much. Defenders can often get away with hanging around at the back instead of chasing the play, something I wish the England defence had realised at the World Cup, so it isn't as tiring as being a striker. Up front or playing on the wing, you'll most likely spend the entire 90 minutes running. You'll need to be up and down the pitch constantly, following the ball, and that shit gets tiring fast.Eggsnham said:It appears this thread has been necro'd... Whatever.
Anywho, I'm not that fit, but I could probably play soccer 90 minutes. My friends who actually play tell me that I could play on the school team if I really wanted to (although, I've heard that my school's team is pretty... Not good).
Hmm. I could do defence. Not goalie as I just don't see myself playing goalie. But defence I could probably manage.SonicWaffle said:It depends where you play, I guess. Good sir, that is indeed most excellent. Perhaps you can share a snippet of your writing here?Sturmdolch said:Writing!
After 12 years of school with English teachers saying I'm excellent at creative writing such as winning the Young Author's Award for my entire school in grade 6, having teachers stop in the hall to say I did a great job on an exam in grade 11 and 12, getting an A on my story in my first year university course, I've finally decided to write in my spare time. I always wanted to write, I just never sat down and actually did it. And so it begins.
No, but your avatar makes me want to boot up Morrowind.PoisonUnagi said:I spent four and a half years living on a boat, then at the start of this year I took a sailing course and it was FUCKING AWESOME.
Do I win the thread?
