You mean like the non story that was released on the DS under the title Final Fantasy III? That was seriously awful.wiredk said:12 was the first one that had a level of story to it not seen since the 2d games
I agree, after playing a lot of WRPGs lately, it's nice to settle down into a linear JRPG, the characters are likeable enough and the visuals are amazing. I'm just enjoying the ride.Sassafrass said:I'm actually enjoying the change of pace.
No idea why. All I know is, I am enjoying it. Give it some time and maybe they'll grow on you.
Like how Vanille's voice, after bugging the hell out of me originally, is growing on me.
If the synopsis in the codex tells you more than the cutscenes do, you need to pay more fucking attention. Seriously, the story of the first few hours is not difficult to follow.JaredXE said:Seriously, you have cutscenes between every little fight, but they don't tell you ANY story; in order to know what is going on, you have to READ a synopsis in your menu options.
Who failed in their "How to tell a story 101" class? I don't mind reading, I don't mind a journal to help me remember little details, I DO mind not bothering to put story in your game and relying upon the player to hunt for each blog entry.
This is what actually made me switch from, "not giving a darn," to, "hey, I might actually pick this game up." I'm currently playing Mass Effect 2, which I adore, and will be playing Dragon Age soon after. Don't get me wrong, the giant sprawling worlds and the lack of linearity IS really nice. On the other hand, I am beginning to find them a bit taxing after a steady diet of them. Scanning every single planet to find the story and reloading every save to find out, "hey, what happens if I do this?" takes a long time. I'm almost looking forward to something that's on rails, where I don't have to go exploring in every single new zone and I don't have to feel I missed anything.Daystar Clarion said:I agree, after playing a lot of WRPGs lately, it's nice to settle down into a linear JRPG, the characters are likeable enough and the visuals are amazing. This. I'm loving the slow-paced energy, especially in the beginning (I'm up to where they've slip the party into 4 and 1, people who're playing will know). These guys have one objective; Lightning and Sahz, Snow and his allies, Vanille and Hope. All these groups were aiming towards one major thing (kind of) but going about it in a very different manner. Really gave insight into how the characters behaved and had lived before (i.e. Lightning doesn't want company, but she cares deeply for Serah, shown through her determination, and is willing to let others tag along if they can help and are willing to let her lead, as we can see from Sahz).GloatingSwine said:If the synopsis in the codex tells you more than the cutscenes do, you need to pay more fucking attention.
