I read the newest gameinformer recently, and found an article on some post apocalyptic games coming out.

I Am Alive was in it.

At first I was really happy about this. I had been looking forward to the game for a while, similarly to me waiting for Dead Island (before the awesome trailer) and then I started reading the changes to the game.

It's now changing from a first person game to a third person game. And instead of being set right after a tremendous earthquake, it's set one year after it.

Now that dosen't seem like a problem, right?

But here is the thing. I was looking forward to a game where you were just a normal person thrown right into the destruction of his city, needing to build a camp, find survivors, and use his wits to get food and water (and I believe there was a shortage of water before the earthquake) while dealing with others being driven mad to survive.

Now it's apparently like "Resident Evil or Silent Hill, but with and added dose of exploration and climbing." I didn't want to play as a hardened survivor hoping from building to building. I wanted an experience of being thrown in there, learning and growing into a survivor, not able jump through the concrete jungle, but figuring out how.

Now that's not to say the game won't be bad. The NPC interaction is still in the game, where you need to deal with a wide range of other survivors who will react differently to you, and you will need to use your wits to deal with each situation. But I'm still a little disappointed in where the game is heading.

So here are some questions for you to discuss

1) Do you like these mentioned changes to the game?
2) What are other games have disappointed you for whatever reason?

Thanks for reading, friends.

I was disappointed when I found out that I Am Alive was cancelled for PC and is only coming out on XBox Live Arcade or something.

Actually, I'm usually just disappointed when I see a game that was being developed for PC as well as consoles and gets cancelled on PC in favor of console excusivity (I'm looking at you, Alan Wake.)

Man, that's upsetting.
(I liked Alan Wake, sorry PC didn't get it)

Freelancer 2 was cancelled.

>.<

Good thing my sister picked it up for cheap and promptly got rid of it. I played it a few times and thought it was crap as a kid.

I Am Alive really deserved to be a main console release. It had a lot of promise until it started slowing down in development, and now it has to be crammed into an arcade release.
Not only that but a year after the earthquake? The hell?

Still, you can't judge the game over one person's interpretation of the game (The Res. Evil/Silent Hill comment). Watching the most recent trailer, you have gone from the average business man to...a leather vest wearing, Justin Bieber-haired Rambo. With a daughter to worry about. I liked it better when you were the middle class working man who experienced the quake getting coffee outside of his office building.

Exactly.

The thing about I Am Alive was that it was just an average guy forced into a situation and needed to learn how to survive. Now it's just a survivor protecting his family. Hopefully that can be compelling, but I think that the original premise just worked better.

I Couldn't agree more! Freelancer is one of my favoruite games, even amidst all this awsome new stuff.
Also, Uncharted 3 really bugged me. Everythinq was great for the first two thirds, and then the ending. Made me want to eat my controller.
Unfortunatly, I'd never heard of I Am Alive until now :p
