Yeah unfortunately PS3 release times are very dependent on where you happen to live...

Why release it at PST? It's stupid!! XBOX gamers have it, why do PC gamers have to wait for the American release? It's going to be the 15th before I play it!

Apparently because that's how EA releases things for Origin, you have to wait for PST time before it's allowed to be released, while Microsoft already got the Demo and released at whatever time they did this morning.

Another reason to dislike Origin, sigh.

Single player demo amazing, I had a fanboygasm upon seeing Wrex and Garrus. and the multiplayer is just so fun.

I'm worried that I'm being overly cynical about this.... But there's some things that just don't feel right about it.

Did anyone else notice how Shepard & Anderson kind of ran like neanderthals?

As someone pointed out, maybe we're missing some content to avoid spoilers, but did those 'Military leaders' seem a bit like whiney 'Oooh nooooes please save us from the big bad' bitches?

The conversations, post invasion start don't seem all that concerned/urgent... more like, 'well this is inconvenient'.

There was no option for codex!!! Not even a grey'd out one :(

Even though there was admittedly few instances where you had conversation options, both outcomes seemed to be exactly the same. Ie, regardless of what you say, same thing happens to 'lil Timmy.

This I'll be honest is just a personal gripe, but the 'Cannibals' seemed really cartoony to me.

Please don't get me wrong. I am so freaking excited about this game. I'm just worried that after the destruction of DA2, that ME3 is going to suffer a similar, if not worse fate in order to make it more appealing to the masses.

I posted a lengthy post on another thread about this so here's a summary:

Story, Action and, RPG mode can be switched during gameplay so picking at the beginning seems a bit pointless. If you pick Action from the very beginning, your shep will always be a grey (in terms of renegade/paragon) solider class. Once again, grenades are a freaking ability which seems a bit backwards considering the first Mass Effect let anyone use grenades.

I don't like how Vega is introduced. He and Shep seem to know each other relatively fondly despite there being no mention of him at all beforehand. As for the more talkative companions it didn't seem to turn up too often in the demo (other than Anderson's tutorial talk). On the plus side, I didn't hear the phrase "bag em and tag em" once so there's a plus. Also, why the hell can't I bypass doors with the little mini-game anymore?! Alright, it wasn't a great minigame but at least it gave EXP...

I was somewhat pleased with the demo and one of the few who didn't notice Mordin's new voice. I haven't even considered using the multiplayer for two reasons: 1, I'm only silver when it comes to XBL. The other being I'm on the anti-Origin bandwagon. Not too fond of EA in general to be honest. I'm not pre-ordering ME3 and I'm not getting it day one but I may still get it new.

My opinion: MMMMMMMMMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHhhhhhh.

Say whatever the hell you want about DA2 but at least it gave me more options for dialouge and did not carry out WHOLE CONVERSATIONS WITHOUT MY INPUT.

Combat? Combat was great flashy and awesome.
Characters: Still spot on and what I expect.

In terms of RP potential I was utterly and completely underwhelmed.
It still has the pathetic mechanic where the dialouge I pick does not reflect well what Shepard says.

I think that it will be an awesome game and have lots of fun moments.
I dont think as of right now that it will really provide good RPing like other games have done.

It seems like they ripped out the option to be neutral and instead Shepard is EITHER paragon or renegade.

I wont firmly decide until I play the game but from a story mechanic I was left underwhelmed.

My big complain is that the Bioware focused on making it more shooter than rpg.

First part of the series was a pure rpg with some shooter twist.
Second part of the series balanced shooter and rpg elements kinda equally.
Third part of the series and we've got a pure shooter with minor 'rpg' elements.

I will play ME3,but I will not be as happy as I would or hoped I'd be if it kept a more rpg character.
I mean it's not only gameplay features, even on the aspect of graphics, the vibrant colors you would see in ME2 are replaced with grey and brown shades as 90% of modern shooters...

I only played the prologue part because I want to be on a details blackout from the game, but it's pretty good. Issues:

Textures are as bland and reminiscent of 2005 as ever. Also human faces still have the uncanny valley thing going.

Lip syncing is just downright terrible. Half the time Shepard was talking, his mouth barely coincided with what he was saying at all.

The sound has that issue that the last two Matrix films had, where the dialogue is way too quiet and then as soon as an action scene starts up, the sound suddenly explodes out of your speakers and you have to turn it down.

The dialogue options seem to be a big illusion. I did two runs of the prologue and on more than one occasion both dialogue options had Shepard say the same thing. If dialogue options weren't copying each other word for word, then odds are that one was just a paraphrased version of the other. Or if that wasn't happening then one of the two dialogue options just makes no sense in the context it's being used. A good example of this is the top dialogue option when Anderson lifts that thing up so Shepard can crawl under, right after the scene with the kid.

Honestly I wouldn't care that there were no real options if they'd just drop the pretense of the dialogue wheel. Then again I remember this being an issue in the ME1/2 prologues too so hopefully it evens itself out later.

The same RPG issue of the protagonist being incredibly bland is still present but I gave up on that fight. Also Jersey Shore is gearing up to be a cut and paste of Jacob. Aside from that, any characterisation is non-existent in the prologue.

The good:

Combat is much smoother.

Heavy melee is looking pretty cool, and the two classes I've tried had unique heavy melee moves.

The soundtrack is a phenomenal blend of the orchestral music from ME2 and the futuristic sounds of the original. In particular, I loved the music that's playing when Shepard is leaving Earth.

Excluding everything Shepard says, the writing is above average.

Everyone has finally stopped putting their fingers in their ears while yelling "LALALALALALA THE REAPERS DON'T EXIST!"

I think you'll find a fair chunk of the opening sequence was cut out, to avoid too many spoilers. I think the moment shown in the demo is actually the second time you are in front of the Courtroom. The first time is where you defend yourself from the charges.
That's what I think too. A lot of the promotional material I read says that the game begins with Shepard's trial for the events that occurred in Arrival. I'm guessing the events that unfold in the demo take place directly after that, unless we go through some sort of tutorial mission before the Reapers arrive on Earth and everything goes to hell.

As for my thoughts on the demo:

The biggest plus for me, though only very little of it was heard, is the music. I can tell Clint Mansell did an amazing job with the soundtrack. One moment in particular was very powerful, due in large part to the score. (If you played the demo, I'm sure you know which one I'm talking about.)

The combat was good, better than ME2. I greatly appreciated that the overheating sound from the first game returned whenever you ran out of heat sinks... (which they refer to as ammo, which has my inner nitpicky fanboy screaming about it, but I can live it.)

The running animation is weird and unintentionally hilarious.

Garrus, Wrex, and Liara all in the same scene!!!

The cutscenes are much more dynamic and cinematic, even more so than ME2, but there weren't that many dialogue choices, and some of things Shepard said seemed like things you should've been able to choose, maybe they cut out some options for the demo.

James seemed like a decent guy, from what little we saw of him, but then again I also like Jacob and Kaidan too. It's nice to have that normal, well adjusted party member amidst all the crazies.

Character creation seems to have improved, and an odd thing seems to have happened. It used to be that custom Fem Sheps were the good looking ones while Male Sheps ended up looking ugly, now it looks to be reversed. Custom Male Sheps look good and every custom Fem Shep I made looked derpy, hell even the default Fem Shep looked derpy. Maybe it's just me.

It's impossible to judge from the demo itself, but it looks like ME3 will be better in my eyes than ME2 was. Possibly even better than the first, but it'll have to try really really damn hard to pull that off, as it stands though, the demo's got me excited for the final product.

The scale of the whole Reaper invasion was really well done, I spent far too much time just watching them fire their badass lasers at the city (which city is this again?) And no nagging "Shep we've got to go!" from Anderson. Like Bioware somehow knew people are gonna stop and watch all the awesome... The Reapers actually felt invincible, good job Bioware.

The music was really well done, good to see the new guy manage to pick up where Jack Wall left off.

Gameplay is a perfect blend of ME1 and 2, my eventual Insanity playthough will be harder than ME2's if the demo's anything to go by. Grenades are back and are actually good this time! (though they were technically in ME2 they just sucked and nobody really noticed them)

Sure the animations and faces are a bit weird but hey i've never let the Uncanny Valley bother me before and i'll be damned if i'm gonna start caring about it now!

It's obvious most of the opening scenes and some of that other level were cut for spoilers, so anyone crying about lack of content can most probably rest assured that it's gonna be padded out in the full game. Demos do this all the time remember? Like The Darkness 2 demo for example?

In conclusion, fuck it it's a day one purchase for me, bring on the 9th!

Enjoyed it a lot, very happy to see my DLC from ME2 isnt going to waste, Loved using my Mattock Rifle during the second teaser mission. Positively salivating to know how my choices will affect the game.
