I think ill throw my 3 cents in on the kane and lynch demo, instead of pieces of 8 on different forum topics.
First of all, the style.
I love the style. The style is presented in a security cam, underground film or news footage uploaded to Youtube style. The menu screens are homevideo shots out the hotel window or on the freeway, noisy next neighbors and all. The loading is actually presented as BUFFERING (not ACTUALLY buffering a video, like a few people......thought(?)) play button and all. That combined with heads being blown off as censored pixelation, instantly tranforming it from silly videogame violence to an actual murder shown on the news, blood pooling on the floor. Pretty gritty
The criminals are portrayed hyper-realistic. Some have glasses, some are middle aged, some have a beard and pudgy. Theyre criminals and they want money. The main characters seem to be living in cheap hotels in china, getting hairy and growning potbellies.
I like this style as well. THe multiplayer campaign is such a mish-mash of different people, its kinda fun seeing who youll end up as. Accountant looking guy? Crazy beard guy? College student? lol
The single player demo actually was ok, i suppose. It basically just showcasing game mechanics; cover, how you heal, how you run, how you kill, and how everything is blown to bits when shot at even when youre hiding behind it.It felt choppy with all the clutter inside the restaraunt. The high point is actually the run outside, into the real city streets running from the law, camera following as if there was a third player with an iphone. Almost expect him to trip or look away at some point....
THE MULTIPLAYER
The multiplayer is where the game shines, why im defending it. The rules are simple, implementation is hard. 3 rounds of the same level, each increasingly more difficult. Kill OTHER bankrobbers, take their money. Make your way to the escape vans over a sea of cops in an alley onto the streets. If you make it to the van, you can keep most of your money and split it with the other people in the van. If you die(you scrabble on the floor for a half a minute...if noone executes you while in your own blood...you get to get back up! But if they shoot you...)...you come back as a cop. If someone else dies, you can stand over their body and take THEIR money. You can betray the entire team, kill them, get highlighted as a backstabber and risk getting killed for more money.(in the demo, i think alot of betrayers are just simply pushing the wrong button, lol) Kill the betrayer for a bonus. Or just simply sprint to the vans before anyone else to keep all your money (assuming you have alot) and leave before they do, leaving them in an empty alley way....and just get gunned down for being alone against a sea of cops. And probably be hated. Probably should just work together, after all. See how im getting greedy? lol
Its a money game.
I always shoot for leaving the game with over a million. After buying guns, of course.
That list of rules IS my review of the multiplayer. Because i think its awesome. Give it ago, see if you like it. I basically just wrote a review for a free demo, after all, lol
(never bought the first one, even though i like the demo as well!)
What do you guys think of the game?
