Now I'm going to go ahead and give you a minute to wipe off the liquid you decided to spit at your monitor in shock before we continue.
You good?
Okay, so here's the mean bidness: as in the sauce of all this madeness:
http://www.nickandmore.com/2015/01/19/cartoon-network-removes-steven-universe-repeats/
Right now they're pulling repeats, so all there is are the new episodes. So it will no longer run on a weekly cycle and gain the amount of exposure it needs to survive. This is fairly damning needless to say.
The main hypothesis as to why is the Young Justice reason, i.e."too many girls are a fan of this so now it's not profitable".
I'd like to believe that there is something that can be done to keep Steven Universe from falling into the abyss, so I'm trying to raise awareness for one and bring more people's attention to the show.
For starters, don't watch it online or on third party sites. Cartoon Network only sees what happens in their territory not on watchcartoononline or animefreaks or whatever. Watch it when it's on, if not, do it on the CN site.
Next, if you have the cash buy the merch. They don't see the show being profitable? Prove 'em wrong. Buy shirts, phone cases, coffee mugs; CN is a CORPORATION not a FRIEND, you make your voice heard with your wallets not your tumblr.
If you can spam CN telling them to bring back Steven Universe repeats, maybe there's is an actual ghost in the shell at CN with a touch of sympathy for the show.
Guys I really don't wanna lose this show, it's just so good on so many levels! The art, the music, the writing, the themes of it all.
The episodes where Steven gets upset about not knowing his mom, how he couldn't get sad over his mother because he never really knew here, or how he gets upset when Lars brought her up FREAKING RESONATED WITH ME. I had no idea who my mom was, she died when I was 3. Having this show say these things and going to these places is amazing.
I know this will seem like plugging or shameless fanboying, but cartoons are important to kids. They teach us a lot while being very subtle the whole way through and make us better people. Steven Universe is saying so much about female empowerment, actual feminism, body/racial positivity and diversity (the main romance is between a chubby white kid and a tall skinny indian girl, and they fuse in one episode).
It's really good, I really like it, and you really need to try it. PLEASE do something in some small part to keep this show afloat, even something as little as emailing or even writing the execs is perfect, just do SOMETHING please!
