Okami is the only game that can be compared to Zelda games. other games are either completely different, or so much worse that they can't be compared.
It's perfect in every aspect.

And when I read when people complain about the controls, I wonder if we played the same game because I've finished the game 3 times and I don't think I had problems with the controls after the first 5 minutes of getting used to it.

The art, music, characters... great and lovely.
my brother got annoyed by the way the character talk, but I found it so funny and cute. <3

And for people complaining about the Wii combat, one tip.
If you wave the Wiimote to fast, it won't work. You have to try to use it according to the animation to make combos. Else you will attack once and have to wait a bit to be able to attack the next time. But if you move the wiimote only the moment when the attack finishes, Amaterasu will go into combo mode and be able to attack faster.

Also, why da fuk are you asking on the forum instead of playing the game?
You're doing it wrong, so wrong on so many different level.
Turn of your PC and go play the game. Come back when you've finished it and say thank you to all the people who said to play it.

You right to that avatar is revoked!

OT: Great game , but why are you postin a thread about a great game instead of playing the great game? YOUR DOING IT WRONG!( and if it wasn't clear the game is great).

tsk*tsk*tsk get the superior PS2 version now :)
I'm sorry!

I didn't pick it up when it was first released, and it will be forever something I hate about myself!

I bought it for the Wii after a recommendation from Daystar Clarion and.......I loved it, the music was good, the art style was gorgeous and the Japanese mythology was in my mindset and right up my street after coming back from Japan.

Under-rated game if you ask me.
You mean someone listened to my advice?

'Tis a glorious day.

It's pretty good! It's a lot more freeform than Zelda though, and I think there are more minuses to that than pluses. Without many real dungeons, there is a pretty bad ratio of bosses and minibosses, whom repeat more than necessary, as well as puzzles, which there are scarcely any of. I suppose that could be becuse they otherwise made beat 'em ups, but I mean, at one point you have to fight a boss 5 times. And you have to travel to different parts of the map by yourself to do so, just to sort of collect him together. That wouldn't be acceptable even in a beat 'em up, where I expect to fight the fun bosses several times, and gladly did so in God Hand.

So yeah. I think it's probably the best of the Zelda-esque games I have played(Darksiders, Starfox Adventures and Beyond good and evil). I still wouldn't put it above any of the Zelda games, because it really phones it in with the puzzles and the dungeons. The combat is more fun than Zelda(and pretty easy, especially once you get the ability to stop time for a few seconds), although it paces itself weirdly. I think none of the dungeons had more than probably 3 fights beside the final boss, but there are tons of semi-random encounters just roaming around in the overworld. The pacing could go doubly for the game itself, because there are 3 main villains, and you never hear about the next one ontil seconds before or after you beat the last one. I took a long break after beating the first one just because I felt so content that everything was all right.

The real strength is in the art design, the music and the characters. Despite the flaws I just mentioned, I got very invested in the world and cried during a certain scene in the very final stages of the game. It also played well on the PS2.

Tip: There's an odd deal with characters having more to say to you immediately after you finished chatting them up. One told me how he lossed his fishrod, so after trying and failing to mend it with paint I went looking for one with one luck. Returning to him, what I was supposed to do was talk to him one or two more times, for the game to activate a scenario in which you could mend his rod with paint. A bit frustrating, but I never fell for it again during the rest of the game.

Okami is one of those games that every PS2 owner needs to have tried at least once. It is a true original not only in terms of graphics and gameplay, but also in sheer atmosphere. You actually feel as if you are taking part in an ancient Japanese legend, alongside characters you genuinely care about. Even the usual fetch quests and "Hunt down and kill this particular monster" - type assignments actually serve to make the world feel alive, rather than just coming across as filler and busywork.

Okami is worth playing for the graphics alone. It is also worth playing for the gameplay alone, the story alone, the music alone and the big, fat, eyepatch-wearing gangster sparrow alone[small]*[/small]. Congratulations on an excellent purchase - you simply CAN'T go far wrong with Okami!

[small]*You'll understand when you see him. Trust me.[/small]

This will mostly be what other said but, a great game. Simply as that. It's a pretty long game so you are getting your moneys worth. Original in a lot of different ways. From the location to the characters, and the story. Plus It can actually pull off humor which a lot of video games can't.

As you have the PS2 version, the only thing thing that you will probably hate will be the unskippable (long) cut scenes. Maybe the gibberish, (I didn't mind so I don't know about you). But that's all I can think of. The combat is pretty fluent in the PS2 version and the brush works much, much better than in the Wii version.

Played it on the PS2, loved it.

Played it on the Wii, loved it (yes, I did.)

Played the DS sequel, loved that too.

It's got such a unique aesthetic, it's got wonderful characters and a great story.

Sure its combat is as deep as a sippy cup and the weapon choices are pretty bland but it's just such a fun experience.

In short, STOP READING THIS AND PLAY THE GAME YOU IDJAMADJIT!

It's just too damn bad that Clover Studio, who made the original, didn't get enough money after it to continue on. I would have loved to see more from them.
