Ever thought that this might indeed be a fake out, and it's an alternate version of Erin? I remember someone theorizing that the different characters represent parts of her. Rad is her past self, full of optimism, and energetic, Gunny is her ideal self: Strong, confident, in shape. Not sure who Althea is, but I could take a guess. This looks like a story that while it's enjoying itself, it's also about how Erin needs to get her own mind sorted out without getting it messed up further by drugs, be it weed or pills. I want Erin to come out of this, different, and slightly better than the Erin we see in Critical Miss.
Well seeing as I said that it could be a fake out in the very text you quoted, yes I considered it might be a fake out :p

In fact, I'm of the opinion that's the route they actually go. I don't see the writers having the guts to actually kill the character, giving her some horrible end, where she dies, alone in an apartment like some elderly hoarder, with the cops finding her body 5 days later after decomposition has set in.

They'll most likely have it all be in her head, and she'll come out all happy and sunshine, for like 2 frames, then someone will say something nice to her and she'll tell them to fuck off. Because it's Erin, and she's perpetually a fucking *****.

When they published the first few strips of EDA I decided I would wait awhile to let them build up a library, because I was worried I would breeze through it otherwise. Fast forward a year and I started reading and rather enjoying it, but ironically there were too many for me to read at the time.

One of these drunken weekends I'll have to pick up where I left off.

So is it over now? It looked like a gamer girl was going through depression and reality was turning into a game or something.

Grey and Cory's stuff is roughly the only reason I come here anymore. Nice to see there's someone here that likes it so much that they'd make a thread of it.

The pace of the comic is a little slow now, but it's something I can forgive. Apparently, Cory's super busy nowadays with life-stuff and the Patreon ain't doin' too hot at the moment (which they've repeatedly said doesn't effect its existence, but it does seem to be negatively impacting its speed). But either way, I'm patient enough to wait for it. Ain't like I don't have a million other hobbies or anything.

I'm enjoying Erin Dies Alone more than Critical Miss. There are several reasons for this- one, I felt like I was more onboard from the beginning of the former, and two, the story structure is more ongoing narrative than weekly tied-in snippets, so I feel like there's more building/happening than in the latter.

I enjoyed the beginning, when it seemed like the video game jokes were also connected to Erin's life
Now it just seems like they went full spoof so I checked out. I check back in from time to time to see if they go back to something a little deeper

But the "spoofs" are mostly well-written. Again, especially the last one.
Which doesn't effect me because I haven't played a final fantasy game in like 5 years.
I loved EDA because when the strip first came out, I was Erin. I had just moved into a new apartment, I was living alone for the first time in my life, and I played waay too many video games.
I just want that part of the story to evolve. Or to at least have some snippet of insight into actual Erin

Well it actually doesn't require you to play Final Fantasy to understand or laugh at it. I haven't played FF in... Ever. I still really like it though, and that's the mark of good satire.

As to Erin herself, believe it or not, I know exactly what you're talking about. A part of me IS Erin as well. I don't have her lifestyle at all but a part of me still wants to just be alone and retreat into my own world even though I know very well how detrimental that would be. I love being a smartass *****. Hell, I'm even in good shape weirdly enough and have been called attractive a couple times. XP

But yeah, I'm just enjoying the ride though at the moment. And that ride is currently Final Fantasy.

It hits sometimes, it misses sometimes. For me, it usually hits when it's light-hearted and funny and it usually misses when it tries to be dramatic. As was already mentioned in this thread, it's not a good idea to take it too seriously, but there are parts scattered here and there where I feel like it's trying to be taken seriously and I just can't make that commitment. Althea's storyline definitely struck me as an example of one of the cringier attempts at drama.

I'm still following it though.
