Was that a deliberate attempt at irony? Because the picture clearly contradicts your forum pic.

I'm doing a lot of research into laptops myself, and I've heard the best things about Asus and Lenovo, although Acer packs some serious hardware into cheap shells, which make for cheap powerhouses that are a bit fragile.
Nah, i am serious. Im using both PC and Macbook Pro. I think that some of Apple products are great pieces of hardware - solid, good looking, ergonomic and comfortable. As long as i don't need a gaming laptop (and therefore im not retarded, because laptops aren't made for games. Hear me, not exactly clever people who think otherwise?), there is no better choice.
Of course im talking about hardware here, because OSX is not even remotely as good as in Mac vs PC commercials.
I'd like to point out that it is the same company in Taiwan that makes Apple, HP, etc. etc. so I'm not so certain about the hardware itself being very diffrent. Just sayin'

My HP ProBook is yet to fail me.
Not the same factory and machines. Asus and Apple are made in same exact location.
ProBook? Coincidentally, it was the ProBook 13 that my sister got from her work. And it broke after few months. BTW: its smaller compared to 13 MBP. I couldn't even find a right place to comfortably lay down my wrist while writing. Too small. And the touchpad was - obviously - not comparable to big, glass apple one.

So my question is, which company makes the most reliable high-end laptops? I probably won't be spending quite so much on my next laptop, since I hardly ever do anything on it that requires the big video card (which is what added the most to the cost of the unit).
Hardware-wise, Apple does. Particularly the MacBook Pro line. They're expensive, but they are solid and reliable.

Beyond that, my suggestion would be one of the Dell laptops from their business lines. Probably a Vostro. Hardware for business-class laptops tend to be a lot more reliable than the ones they sell to normal consumers.

I just got a Sager from xoticpc.com, spent $1000 dollars and it has an i7, nVidia 425 (insert all those crazy letters here) gfx, 6GB of ram, 320GB HDD, and some other great stuff built in. It's super quiet and has a 4 hour battery life. 15 or 16" screen.

I'm happy with it. :D

Well, about that touchpad that's really quite subjective is it not? You can't really use that against it...

And about the hardware, Quanta Computers makes them all, I don't know if it is the same factory or not.

buy Acer or HP, HP are better but a lot more expensive, Acer are great and cheap

oh and if any of you are from the UK, what ever laptop you decided to buy, buy it from Argos clearance on ebay if you can, seriously got an acer 6930G with 1Gb Nvidia 9600M GT graphics card for like £300 ($450ish) when its supposed to be £650 just because someone had returned it, not a scratch on it what so ever, actually never found out why it was returned and i've had it for a year and a half lol. but anyway the hard drive corrupted on it after 3 months or so (was actually my fault lol)and they had it fixed and back to me within a week for free :D

Well, I'm not sure about the US, but in England we have laws that say that the product must be fit to last up to six years. So if the USA has the same sort of laws then you'll be able to get your laptop repaired or replaced for free. Try writing to your congressman or talk to a lawyer, whichever works best for you.

I know that Toshiba make shitty hard drives, so they're out of the running. My Acer Aspire is having problems with it's AC socket so I have to put in my charger half way so that it'll charge. This is the second problem with the AC that I've had and it's still under warranty so I'll have to get this fixed.

It also has an issue where if I'm not connected to a network it goes so slow that I can't do anything. That's usually fixed by resetting the drivers and making sure my router is actually on though, so no difficult problem.

We had a lot of macbooks at school. They screwed up pretty regularly. Some of the teachers said their old Dell laptops were more reliable.

I believe LENOVO is a pretty stable brand after they acquired the IBM thinkpad hardware designs. SONY and SAMSUNG probably work out fine as well, but they aren't exactly budget models.

Heard good things about MacBooks as well, except for pricing and gaming capabilities. The OS should be accessible, the build quality just fine, and the design is pretty fancy.

I've got a 2 year old Acer, the hard drive totally broke once (but that was my fault), and then the graphics card went completely kaput; had to replace the motherboard =(. Other than that all good =\

But remember that some people buy laptops because they have to stay mobile, so if you like to play games and have to stay mobile you might want a laptop capable of playing some games.

Personally, HP has been a terrible experience for me, but Acer has been supremely better. HP sent me a motherboard that got me involved in a class action lawsuit over faulty hardware, whereas my Acer has been chugging for 4 years without any significant hardware upgrades, although it has started to show its age.

Good Laptop brands, hummm....

Good Laptop Tier
MSI, Asus, Lenovo, Toshiba, Sony (little over Priced if you ask me), Gateway (since they are own now by Acer)

Okay(?) laptops tier
Acer (there own line lacks the quality they put in the other 2 brands they own, Gateway and eMachines)
HP, they are slipping in quality as of late but not overall bad PCs.

Avoid Completely tier
Dell, Alienware 9which is own by Dell now) Compaq (Now a HP sub-brand), Apple (yes I said it, apple is way too over priced for last gen parts, plus their is no 3rd party support for apple hardware or software that exist).
Foxcom (they make Apple's hardware too).

Left out Tier
Their are a few brands I skipped over that I doubt most people would get, they are good machines, but the prices are incredibly high and are only can be purchase on a reseller or specialty online stores.

well my Toshiba Qosmio has been going solid as all hell since I got it over a year ago. Win7 Home Premium, 4GB memory, 1TB of HDD (2x500GB), Blu-Ray, i7, 19inch 1080p, and 1GB GTS240 video card.

Sat on my couch with this thing on my lap, a wireless mouse and played CoD:MW2 from start to finish with no hiccups or anything. Only drawback is that he's heavy as fuck.

I have an HP that is almost exactly a year old.

Great internet reception, blazing fast (For me at least), and rather user friendly.

Except the battery life is batshit stupid. In the time that it took me to type this message, I'm now at 96% battery power. In about 30 minutes my computer will be dead.

I'd say get a Sony, Apple or Asus laptop. I saw a test some time ago (cant seem to find it again grr.....) where they showed which company had the highest failrate, and Sony, Apple and Asus were the top 3 ones. (cant remember the order)

PS: Acer and HP was at the bottom.

Why did that guy recommend apple when he had a windows logo as an avatar?
Isn't your avatar is supposed to be ether a reflection of who you are or Something you are not.

In my case, I am not Cecile the Dark knight from Final Fantasy IV.

Problem solved.
!,,!, =.= ,!,,!
SAGER notebooks kick some serious ass.

I have an np7130 with the best i7 processor, 8gb ram, and a few other things... but I have never had a problem running any game, from TF2 on ultra settings to Crysis on high settings nothing has ever given me a problem. That said, the plastics feel a little cheap, but its light and powerful and has never had any problems.
