There's already an "oh gosh PETA made porn" thread. The fact that you've started another one just goes to show how incredibly effective and media-savvy PETA is. Make no mistake, the score right now is PETA 2, The Escapist nil. You can sure as hell bet that nobody's starting threads about us on their site. Think about that for a few moments.
That's true. Someone carve "Gamers against porn" into a whale.
I'm not convinced that that's the best way to do it, but there really ought to be a way to get them talking about gamers.

Hrm.

Actually ... someone could probably use "animal suffering caused" and ... er ... "protein provided" and maybe "deliciousness experienced" as a better system than "good" and "evil" in a weird sort of sandbox survival game. Post-90%-human-fatalities survival, rather than survival horror, because we all know in survival horror the animals are evil monsters and/or being eaten alive by evil monsters already. Keeping your reduced tribe alive after the war provides all sorts of differing approaches, though: trade, conquest, agriculture, foraging, hunting, domestication and so on. Fight the bandits, pay them off or adopt them? Trade materials for food and tech or grow and develop your own? Hunt the horses for food or capture them and use them for ploughing fields?

Bonsaik is right, actually. Despite how completely extreme and insane we think Peta is it's clear that their strategy is actually working, and pretty well none the less. I just wonder how much people are going to accidently stumble into peta porn sites.

PETA never fail to make me laugh. I love their ad campaigns, and am planning on going veggie when I leave home (cheaper and easier, as well as a lack of love for killing animals).
So to this I say: LOL

They tried it before with the murder of 6 million Jews in World War II. [http://articles.cnn.com/2003-02-28/us/peta.holocaust_1_animal-rights-peta-web-site-holocaust-survivor?_s=PM:US]

Everyone forgets the homosexuals, mentally handicapped, Roma and so on every single time.

The comparisons prompted an angry statement from Abraham Foxman, Anti-Defamation League national director and a Holocaust survivor.

"The effort by PETA to compare the deliberate, systematic murder of millions of Jews to the issue of animal rights is abhorrent," the statement said. "PETA's effort to seek approval for their 'Holocaust on Your Plate' campaign is outrageous, offensive and takes chutzpah to new heights."
However good a point they may have had, they did p___ some people off.

We celebrate it because it?s IEATAPETA Day: International Eat A Tasty Animal for PETA Day.

It?s the day we ceremonially stick it in the eye of the good folks at PETA by consuming mass quantities of Animal Protein. As Alex Bensky says, ?If it didn?t have a mother, it?s not on my menu.?

Actually, there's a fascinating irony there ... or something vastly sinister, depending on your point of view.

On 15 March every year, people in the USA eat meat to stick two fingers and a bloodied fork up in the direction of PETA as a protest at PETA's hijacking of The Holocaust (everyone forgets the Armenians too!) for their own cause, because it's such a sacred example of what must NEVER AGAIN be allowed to happen.

Fair enough, say I ...

... except that they're doing it, typically, around 7pm-8pm on the east coast of the USA, 5 hours behind GMT. 7 hours ahead of GMT, 12 hours ahead of them, is thus 7am-8am 16 March ... in Vietnam.
March 16, 1968: The Day of the Massacre [http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/americanexperience/features/timeline/mylai-massacre/]

Charlie Company is ordered out of their bunks to gather gear and receive ammunition.

Nine helicopters -- the first "element" -- leave landing zone Dottie. This includes the 1st Platoon led by Lieutenant Calley and the 2nd Platoon led by Lieutenant Stephen Brooks.

.....

Later investigations will reveal estimates between 347 to 507 civilian casualties.

.....

3:30 PM
Colonel Henderson receives a second report of civilian casualties and directs a company back through Son My village to get an exact count. However, Major General Joster, the commander of the Americal Division, radios that no further examination is necessary and countermands the order.

.....

December 5, 1969

Sergeant Haeberle's photos are published and exacerbate the already-strong public outcry over the My Lai massacre. On the CBS Evening News, Walter Cronkite issues a warning about the disturbing images for viewers before showing them. The horrific images immediately cause a country-wide uproar.

.....

January 1971

During his trial for charges of assault with intent to murder at least six My Lai civilians, Sergeant Charles Hutto admits to killing a group of unarmed civilians with an M60 machine gun.

Hutto's acquittal on the 14th sets the precedent that "obeying orders" is a viable defense for mass murder.

April 1, 1971

After the White House receives over 5,000 letters of protest in one day, President Nixon intervenes and orders Lieutenant Calley released from the stockade and put under house arrest while his case is under review.

.....

April 16, 1974

Lieutenant Calley's sentence is further reduced from 20 years to 10 years.

Calley will return to the stockade from house arrest, but will be released on parole that November. In total, Calley serves four months in a stockade.
Now, maybe it's just me, but I can't help thinking that, no matter how badly they go about it, n years to the hour after that isn't the time to be light-heartedly sticking two fingers up at people campaigning for rights. For me, if you want to do something special on the evening or 15 March in the USA, you should go and lay fresh flowers on Hugh Thompson's grave in Lafayette Memorial Park, Louisiana. Just ignore PETA.

No, I didn't just quote the worst parts.

I, um, yeah. This is not... oh boy.

Granted they aren't know for their tact or intelligence in general, but seriously? Once in a while they will actually do some good, but with things like this it's hard to see how they can maintain any kind of momentum.
Wicked, now more people can realize that PETA is nothing but a bunch of loons, their actions as irrelevant as their message.

It's a shame it took this long for them to do something this stupid, not enough people started opposing them considering their stance on vaccines and insulin, despite the fact that PETA Senior Vice President MaryBeth Sweetland uses insulin.

Here's her quote when called on it:

"I'm an insulin-dependent diabetic. Twice a day I take synthetically manufactured insulin that still contains some animal products -- and I have no qualms about it ... I'm not going to take the chance of killing myself by not taking insulin. I don't see myself as a hypocrite. I need my life to fight for the rights of animals."

It's funny that she doesn't see herself as a hypocrite, I'd say she is the picture-perfect fucking definition of one.

Yup, wars are terrible. Regardless how terrible, things done during them are completely irrelevant to animals' rights. One human life is more important than any number of animals' suffering, period. So, comparing the fact that the fur industry(Or whatever animals rights issue) still exists to an atrocity committed during a war, it is just insulting. Mostly to the person making the comparison, it makes them look like a complete fucking moron.

You stop animal cruelty by teaching people to respect the biosphere in all its forms. Having an omnivorous diet does not a tyrant make; there's a problem when more cows and more bulls are slaughtered than we actually need to feed our population basins. Eating a steak once in a while doesn't turn you into Vlad Tepes the Impaler.

Although I do in fact prefer my Steak quite rare. Keeps alot of the juices....*Drools*
DAMN YOU! Now I wan't Steak....and I now have a desire to go watch Hellsing OVA 8 again.
Snee hee hee, Madara XIII wants extra-rare steak... *wrings hands together in a devilish manner*

My work here is done.

I bet she wears a genuine mink coat when its cold, the reason being she can protest better if she is warm.

peta is all about propaganda. they sometimes do more harm than good.
and they lost a lot of respect from me after a newspaper showed that peta euthanized 92% of the domestic animals that were given to their own animal shelter in 2010.

I think I just figured it out. PETA is literally a group of people who have a perverse sexual fetish for animal suffering and wish to share their affection with the world. How would they get pictures of animal cruelty on billboards and television without doing it for an apparently moral cause? Now they're just being upfront about it.
