I know, I mean he may have murdered someone but god damnit that someone was a ROBBER. I mean murder is clearly OK when it's murdering a thief.
Well.. yea.

After all stealing is a much worse crime than murder.
That being clearly untrue is irrelevant. Who said the punishment of a crime had to be equal to the crime?

This is what my conceal and carry instructor told my class:

"Police frown on bullet holes in the floor."

When the robber went down the first time, that was enough. If he was still moving, it doesn't take much to restrain a 16-year-old with a bullet wound to the head.

Here is how it should have gone down:

After returning to the pharmacy, Jerome should have locked the door to make it more difficult for the accomplice (gunman) to return. Next, he should have checked Parker to see the extent of his injuries. The next thing he should have done was call 911 to request the police and an ambulance (making sure to give a description of what happened, his description, and note the fact that he was armed).

If Parker started moving, Jerome should have shouted in a commanding tone, "Do not move or I will fire again!" In fact, he should have shouted that several times rather than simply pumping lead into Parker.

Shouting a loud, clear, and commanding verbal warning (especially with so many witnesses) does two things:

- It makes it clear to the wounded criminal that you will fire again if they do not comply and stay where they are.

- It makes it clear to those around you that you are giving the wounded criminal a chance to continue on and make it into police custody without incurring further bodily harm. This is extremely important because it puts the ball in the criminal's court. Their actions after that point are their own doing. The Jury will likely see it that way as well. I cannot stress this enough!

If the shouting did not work, restraint or even a boot to the ribs would likely have sufficed (in this instance). That would likely have been enough and the police would likely have arrived shortly thereafter.

One should never go to the extreme that Jerome did. After the criminal is down and is no longer a threat, you have the responsibility of ensuring that they make it into police custody. Firing again should always be a last resort if it is clear the the criminal is mortally wounded and cannot pose a threat.

However

I have no sympathy for the dead teenager (Parker) or his family. Parker brought this on himself when he decided to try and rob the pharmacy in the first place. In fact, he would be alive right now had he not been so stupid.

I saw Parker's family in the video at the top of the page crying over his death. Naturally, they will show up in a press conference later on saying, "He was a good boy." Bullshit.

One more dead thug, and I'm not shedding a tear.
