Hey everyone,

I have a tough one (maybe impossible) from 1991. I've searched for articles online with various keywords, but alas no luck.

Here is the jist:
-Year 1991
-Online (required telnet over Internet IP (pre-WWW))
-Played it at college (University of Arkansas) if this helps
-Text-based MUD style
-Post-apocalyptic theme
-Used a grid (10x10 or so) to represent the terrain you moved through. Like a bird's eye veiw. Red R's were radiation zones for example.
-You built a base, upgraded security features, storage, etc. And could only save game inside your base.
-In an encounter with a mob your success or failure to hit was based on stopping a scrolling cursor as it passed numbers on line. You were given a random number from 1-5 with an ^ in superscript or subscript. Superscript meant the "to hit" line would count up. Subscript meant it would count down.

So, for example you would be shown a 4^ onscreen with a 3-5 second pause. Then the cursor would begin scrolling across the screen revealing this: .....1.....2.....3.....4.....5 and your goal was to press the space bar within a couple of periods of the given number. The higher level you were the faster the scroll. Also, the better you were with a weapon, the more periods you could miss by and still successfully hit your target. Also, you got a bonus for hitting right on the number.

Anyway, I've never seen a game take the players ability to hit into account like this and would love to find it on some throwback server out there.

Can anyone help?

-Will
Its amazing how active and how long this thread is. Sadly it's not looking too good for this one though. Any pointers for my continued search?

Hi,

I've been trying to find two games for years. Both of them are arcade style airplane games. I played them in about '95 or '96. One of them was i think solo flying with some weird looking plane, weird levels, i remember having to fly through hexagonal robotic style doors that maybe opened and closed? I remember a grey look to all the textures.

The other one was a more "realistic" looking airplane game, a bit more colorful, racing against AI planes through... canyons?

Hi,

An RTS game or some sort that I used to play just popped into my head. But I can't remember what the name was.
I played around the year 1998 - 2001. The laptop was either running a win 95, 98 or even a 2000.
Elements I remember that was in the game:
-Fantasy setting
-RTS style control
-Units you could control were: Dwarves that could throw grenades in AREA damage,
knights fighting with sword and shield, and archers.
-Gameplay: I remember being placed in a village or sort with only a few units, 3 dwarves and fend off against a huge wave of zombies. You had to hit and run them or be overwhelmed. There were other gamemodes fighting against other dwarves, knights and archers except you only could use what you had to begin with. I think you could find ally units elsewhere on the map.

My uncle showed me these games along with Need for speed 2, doom 2 and star craft. These games might help for reference what year its from. I've been searching for a while. I'm pretty sure I can confirm the game if I see an image or some gameplay.

Sounds like "Myth: The Fallen Lords" (1997) or one of its successors.

Been searching forever and can't find anything in this thread or through google. It was a PC game played in music class once in a blue moon when we weren't singing or playing with the instruments. Not sure if it was on a floppy or not. I played it when I was about 8 so all I remember about it was that it was dark and gloomy and there was this music box wind up key that was broken or stolen (Or maybe it was a mirror? I can't remember). I presume you had to solve puzzles to find the pieces or the key but my memory could be a bit faulty there. I remember the box (or whatever object it was) was front and center of the "map" with paths that lead towards a castle or mountain or something like that in the background with woods on the sides of the screen (I think).

you need to specify whether they were 1st person or 3rd person, top-down or 3D, etc.

a wild guess for the second would be

Plane Crazy (1997)

Hi guys! I've been looking for a PC-game for a while now and hope you can help me - although there's not much I remember. I don't know if it was a download-file or a CD, but it was on Windows 95. You played as a little red creature with big yellow eyes (I think that creature wore a light blue hat / cap). That creature had to pass a maze-like level and collect some things (for extra points...but I don't even remember what those things were) on the way to the goal. Yeah, that's it.... As I said, not much information at all, but I hope someone here knows what I'm talking about (-;
Still haven't found it, soo....bump ^^"
Is the game you're thinking of called gift?

The first one could very well be "Terminal Velocity" (1995)

or one of its Win95 siblings "Fury^3" (1995) or "Hellbender" (1996).

Hi.

I've been searching in vain for a pc video game for months now. It should be a late 1990's or early 2000's game.
I cannot remember much about the game but what I the little I remember is that at some point in the game, you are a skinny guy in a white outfit and you are being chased by a villain who is in a kind of space ship. I think this happens on a mountain or something. Then at some point, when you run out of 'mountain' to flee, you have to press spacebar repetitively and the skinny guy turns really muscular and then you can defeat the villain.
That's all I can remember about this game.
Hope you can help me!

Hey,

There's a game I've been searching for for years now, I used to play it when I was a kid, it was probably a game from around 1995-1998 and you could download it online at the time. It's a bit hazy in my memories, but for what I remember, it was a 3rd person game with a camera above the characters but it wasn't a top view. I remember that the style of the game was very cartoony, and the characters were very round, and it was some kind of 3D adventure game where you could choose a character, one of them had a sword, and another one some kind of wand. Also the game was bright and colorful.

I can't really give any more details since I played this when I was pretty young at the time,
but thanks to anyone that tries to find it!

Hi all,

I'm trying to remember a game I played on my Apple II. It was, I would think, an action adventure game, side scroller in which you had to collection a certain amount of... eggs? Very simplistic graphics, you spent alot of the game in caves you could climb down to with ladders and I believe you have a limited supply of arrows ( but could get more through pickups ). One of the baddies I remember fighting was a living plant thing a la Audrey II from Little Shop of Horrors.

Games like it sort of, but aren't the right one: Conan, Lode Runner, Captain Goodnight
(very simiiar in graphics ).
Thanks!

**Solved** Woot, thanks to some hints, the game name was found: Black Magic ( Datasoft 1987 )

Haha, good find, diablo.
The only "skinny guy in white outfit" I could think of was "Earthworm Jim". :-D
Earthworm Jim is another equally good possibility. I almost instantly thought in Space Ace because I remember have seen a video of the AVGN and he was really pissed off (typical from him) of this game because the difficulty of jumping in the mountains while being shooting by the lasers of the enemy...

Hey Guys. I'm new to this site, found it while looking for a game. So I used to play this game on one of those "floppy disks" after they were floppy-the more rigid smaller ones. It was a scuba game, I seem to remember hunting treasure and shooting spearguns. I've checked out this game on ms-dos library called Deep Sea Diver. I don't think that's it, however it could be as you progress through the levels. I really don't like playing on the computer, I wanted to put it on an emulator, so I was hoping I could play it further then. So my questions were 1. are they any other games that this may be? 2.I know some of these games are available on the internet for free to download legally. Some, like Deep Sea Diver, are not. Where would I go about obtaining a legal copy of this game? Thanks for your help.
