Trying to recall an RTS (I don't think it was TBS) for PC, maybe even DOS. It featured futuristic tanks image on box cover. Wasn't really a good game except I do recall you could make good use of terrain. One thing I clearly remember was a line of trees with a road passing through them. I think it was probably a top down view rather than isometric. You could set up units either side of the road so that as enemy units came out of the tree line your units could easily wipe them out before they had a chance to return fire. The perfect ambush! Which reminds me of another game from the same era which was called Perfect General which had you play one side and then the other to compare scores.
I thought the title was FrontLines but a search has resulted in a different game with that title. It's bugging me that I can't think of the title yet I can have a mental image of that box cover.
In any case, if nobody recalls the game, could I have a few suggestions of other RTS or TBS games in which you can make similar use of terrain. Not more recent games thanks as my PC is low end and my download speed is SLOW.
Just so you know what type of game(s) I'm interested in, I'll tell you that I've just re-bought Total Annihilation from GOG. I still have the original game boxes, disks and manuals buried somewhere in the shed, but at $2.09 on promotion, it seemed easier just to get it from GOG, although at just over 1 Gb it took several hours to download. Enjoying the game all over again, and introduced my 11 year old son to it. He hasn't played his console games like FIFA etc., for several days. I'm not a fan of modern day FPS games with their ultra graphic violence and certainly won't allow my son to play them, but I feel something like TA is okay and can see that it actually gets him to use his brain a bit, unlike most console arcade games that just require skill mostly.
Despite many years of being a fan of RTS/TBS I'm not a hard core gamer, just a casual one, and not really that good a player either. Nevertheless, I do have fun, and after having a break from any gaming for over 5 years feel like getting back into it again, at least for a while. Oh, and I avoid "Steam" like the plague.
Sorry for the long and rambling post.
I look forward to some hopefully helpful replies.
Cheers,
