What's funny is that sometimes, even old, dated games are still a hoot.
Just because a game is old doesn't mean it's dated. In a lot of cases, I honestly think older games are as good as, or even better than the ones coming out now. Quake II, for instance, has held up really well, even though it's 12 years old now. Ok, the graphics are bad and there's no plot to speak of, but in terms of gameplay it's every bit as fun as it was in 1997.

Baldur's Gate Saga.
Also this. Quite probably my favourite game series of all time. This is the perfect case of old games being better than new ones, in my opinion. I'm not just being nostalgic about it either: it has one of the best stories ever told in a videogame, the gameplay is deeper and more interesting than any other RPG I've played, and the graphics, while 2D, still look beautiful to this day.

If you need a good example of old games which have held up well over the years, look no further than Baldur's Gate.

I recently replayed Ocarina of Time on my sister's Wii via digital download, which was awesome. The limitation of the controller was frustrating so I tried hooking up my N64 but the game kept crashing, and when it did work, the graphics were actually really poor in contrast to the Wii. I'll never not love that game.

I bought the DOOM pack on Steam when it was on sale and replayed through Doom 1 and 2 which was a hoot. I also just pre-ordered Serious Sam: The First Encountered HD that I guess they updated the graphics. Those games were amazingly fun.

Whenever I do a fresh install of XP I install Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate 2. Sometimes I'll start a new game, sometimes I won't, but it's almost always installed on my hard drive so I have the option to.

Same goes for KOTOR. I've replayed that so many times experimenting with so many different mods I can't even count. Love it.

How old are we talking about here?
I'm pretty old and I still occasionally play games on my old nes (original release one- it still works) but I also liked that about the gameboy: you could play all sorts of old games on it.
Castlevania.
(Ms) Pac Man
Phantasy Star 2 & 4
FF7 (downloaded it to my ps3 but it also plays on my psp)
is Dawn of War old yet?
What about gta San Andreas?

Mafia, the greatest game of them all!

And I'd be playing the fantastically brilliant KotOR and PoP: SoT if it weren't for my widescreen.

Vista was supposedly stupidly problematic with old games, but it's piss easy, whereas a simple resolution scale is a total ***** to force. Even with the UniWS thing (which won't work).

Gran Turismo 1 and 2 ftw. I've also got Excalibur 2555AD recently, and have been playing Digimon world 2. However they've all been sidelined as of Tuesday morning.

Super Mario RPG, Pokemon granted it is the newest one so not old but I only use old pokemon since I don't care for the newer ones), Risk, Zelda Wind Waker (in short breaks), Super Smash Bros Brawl. Assassin's Creed and maybe others but I'm having a problem remembering. I tend to play the up-to-date games mostly due to Xbox Live and such

if I had a working GC memory card I'd be playing my GC stuff:Tales of Symphonia, Metroid Prime 2, Paper Mario:TTYD. Super Castlevania IV, DKC3 , LoZ:LTTP and Legend of the mystical ninja gets a playthrough now and again thanks to the virtual console.

Golden Eye 64

/thread
I used to love that game, but I don't think it has aged well at all.
Everyone's entitled to their own opinion. I for one am of the opinion you should play it again to be sure. I did after some crap-tacular MW2 playtime and I enjoyed Golden Eye way more.
