Old jokes to quit using

While watching an LP the other day a lighthearted joke was made about a strange idea/element being a Pokemon. This and the Rooster Teeth Entertainment Station sketch "Everything is a Pokemon" are two examples of one of the most tired jokes I've seen in all my time as a gamer. The idea of Game Freak, or rather Nintendo to those who make the jokes, just constantly being completely bankrupt on ideas, pulling rushed half-assed designs at random with no real rhyme or reason to anything.

Now, I'm a fair person. I'll admit it was a funny joke. Pokemon can draw on unexpected sources for their designs at times, so the joke has some basis in the perspective of the non Pokemon gamers. But after almost 20 years of Pokemon, for good or for ill it's here and it's staying, will anyone ever tire of this joke? It's so absolutely inane to anyone who plays Pokemon and nothing else but common "knowledge" to anyone who knows of Pokemon. Let alone the fact that it's always the same Pokemon brought up every time. Garbodor, Vanilluxe, Amoonguss, Klinklang, and Chandelure.

So, the question is, will people ever stop using this damned joke? And for discussion value, are there any jokes that just crop up again and again with every one thinking they're so original that bother you?

the same could be said of the joke.

You realize if you project to someone not to tell a certain type of joke they enjoy doing it all the more?

It's the entire reason dad jokes exist. The family gathers for dinner, everybody's plate is laid out, your dad goes "Oh, looks great. What's everyone else gonna eat though?" everyone groans and he has a giggle to himself cause he went ahead and told that lame joke yet again and it pissed you off, yet again.

All you're doing is contributing to the creation of more dad joke style humor by complaining about it.

It's not the jokes, it's the people who act like they are the first person to make the joke. THEY need to quit it.

Jokes like that will be around as long as they are relevant. The jokes might even be new to the commentator, or they think some of the audience never heard them. They might even be used just for some extra dialog to fill space, or as an attempt to get other commentators to discuss the details of the joke. They could also just be used to push some people's buttons, as said above.

Some of the things that grinds my gears a little are the forced puns Chuggaconroy and Ted from Brainscratch Commentaries like to use. It doesn't hurt the experience, but it's enough to make me groan occasionally. Ted is especially trying to annoy his co-commentators and the audience with some of his puns.

I'd say the bigger problem is less "People make jokes about dumb pokemon" and more of that 8 times out of ten, those same people going "lol Keychain pokemon amirite?" will tout the original 151 as any different. Remember guys, before the Ice cream cones and the gears, hell even the garbage bags, waaay back in the first "best" generation we had this

If half a dozen eggs can be a mon, I don't see why a candle can't... le.

There's one that I was thinking about recently.

The "joke" that people don't know how to pluralize nemesis. The first time I saw it, it was mildly amusing. Then I saw it again. And again.

Look, it was never all that funny in the first place. If you have to steal jokes from other movies, there's way better material you could be going for.

Old jokes to quit using?
while I can't say much on the pokemon thing, I'm left groaning terribly after the 50th time hearing either
"The Cake is a lie"
or "Valve can't count to three"
or "MOBA's suck"
or "Your MOBA sucks"
or simply just hearing "Batman"
I know half of these aren't really jokes but I just put it on "meme" status at this point.

Literally everything that Collegehumor does.

"What if the Hulk had sex?"
"What would superhero sex be like?"
"What if Batman used his voice during sex?"
"What a "mature" Mario would be like? Hint - sex... and the occasional drug abuse."

Raunchy humor works well if used sparingly. If it's your one and only trick, it gets old very, very quickly.

"The Cake is a lie" needs to just die a death. That and old 'joke' memes from more than 1 year ago just aren't funny anymore. Yes, we know you can attack the giant enemy crab's weakpoint for massive damage you DON'T NEED TO KEEP REPEATING IT!

"I used to be [blank], but then I [blank]."

Seriously, I didn't even think it was a memorable line when Skyrim actually came out, yet everyone jumped on that shit like it was the next big fountain of creativity.

On the other side of the fence, jokes that I hope will NEVER go out of style are all the Giantdad memes for the Souls games. Seriously I bet within the first week someone will claim to have already found the appropriate Giantdad build when Dark Souls 3 comes out.

Wait, people still use that lame meme? I thought it had already died long ago.

Well, this is actually the first time I've ever actually made any fuss about this. It's usually done more in good fun nowadays, at least among the groups I tend to lurk amongst.

Notice here how these jokes all fall into the same category. The same line or concept simply repeated infinitely without variation or any intelligent production put into them. I think that's what the problem is, there's no difference from the first time you hear it to the 50th time you hear it no matter how many different sources use it.

Also, side note, why does the idea of "mature" subject matter always default straight to sex, drugs, jackassery, and hyperviolence? It's like that Power/Rangers short a while back. It actually brought up subjects that would have been interesting if explored in a deconstructive sense but followed it right up with A) everyone being unrepentant asshats B) everyone else being druggies and C) everyone from both A and B going straight to murdering each other.

Actually, I think those are some of the best puns at times. If the punner is actively attempting at least annoyance with his or her puns, they're on the right path.

No. I stand by the Pokemon joke.

I was just playing the other day, and this years after I had stopped, but I caught a fucking Sword pokemon.

How the fuck does that work? Are there just floating swords roaming the country side? WHAT THE HELL DOES A SWORD EAT?

Manowar, Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, Early Man, Iced Earth, The Darkness.
You know, \m/etal.

OT:
Anything doing with gross stuff we already know is gross.

NO, I don't need you to compare your pooping to a mud slide, your farts to Hitler's Gas Chambers, or your menstruation to Niagara Falls.
It's stupid, overdone, and just...gross.

Yeah, alright, I'll give you that one. Though the Pokedex entry which you must have read if you caught it, both shows it's typing, Ghost/Steel, and explains that it's a ghost that has possessed a sword in X and in both X and Y explains that it consumes life force.

Which I feel is a great example in my opinion as it's a pokemon that looks ridiculous and is then explained and made terrifying if you look into it.

But you would think, if it's just from a human perspective- WANDERING WEAPONS ROAMING IN TALL GRASS that it would be like a huge thing. Like the Pokegoverment would get together and try to put a stop to it cause you know it's stabbing motherfuckahs.

I suppose it's stupid to poke wholes in Pokemon logic, their world operates under no real world logic. Like you'd imagine in their world their mass killers just enter a room and chuck voltorbs everywhere. Actually, thats an idea for a terrible fanfic.
