I used the search ba- Okay, I only really looked up old RTS and it didn't come up with Old RTSes that are still popular on the first page but whatever ONTO THE TOPIC.

When I say old I mean the time of games like Total Annihilation, Starcraft, Command and Conquer... Basically, I'm talking about RTSes, old ones, ones that aged awesomely besides their graphics falling over on themselves.

My favourite RTS of all time is Total Annihilation, I hear SupCom is a lot like it but I'm too lazy to go out and buy it at the moment. In my opinion it was pretty unique at the time it came out (from what I heard of) and it was ONE OF the first 3d games, even if it was from constant birds eye view and, as I mentioned in another thread, the 3d was a blowjob with a cheese grater to your eyes.

Basically, my question is what old RTSes do you guys know of that are still SORT OF popular today?

What made me think of this thread is I have a friend with a REALLY shit computer, ok, so it runs everything made in -2005 on mid-to-high graphics and anything after that is either low or blue screen of death so he's been sticking to old games for ages now, and I referred TA Spring to him since he could run it and I'd like him to be able to play a game with me that doesn't look like a blowjob with a cheese grater (I'm trying to milk that phrase as much as possible).

Total Annihilation was brilliant, the best RTS ever made if you ask me. The sequel Supreme Commander was rubbish, I wouldn't bother with it. Just keep enjoying TA.

Well not as widely popular but still seems to be popular with anyone who played it. Warhammer: Dark Omen.
A well thought out interesting game that really made me worry about tactics and landscape. Line of sight for ranged units was a big issue and deciding who benefited from different magical enhancements always effected the outcome of a battle.
I've actually been meaning to get that, is it freeware now or should I go buy it?

I would even go further back and choose Warhammer: Shadow of the Horned Rat which came out in the same year as the original Command & Conquer. My absolute favorites are C&C: Tiberian Sun, Red Alert and Red Alert 2 with Yuri's Revenge.

Warcraft 2 still has an active audience, and even though it's not quite as old s some of these other examples, C&C Red Alert 2 remains rather huge.

Red Alert and Tiberian Sun still have surprisingly big online communities. I still play Tiberian Sun from time to time and there is usually a pretty big list of games going on in the servers.

Not sure what you mean here, but TA is not 3D... It mimics 3D with shadows and a couple different height levels objects are appended to, but I wouldn't even call that pseudo-3D.

Home World is still pretty popular, being the first truly 3D RTS, but I don't know if that's old enough.(pre 2000)

Gonna go with Age of Empires 2 on this one, it was the only RTS I really enjoyed. (watching your mass formations of longbowmen shoot down the 11th army of stupid foot soldiers never gets old for some reason.)
